Olympic Sports Now Accepting Wagers on Professional Wrestling

Montego Bay, Jamaica (PRWEB) August 19, 2003

Those seeking evidence that “The Greek” is a few chickpeas short of a Gyro gleefully will point out that the Internet wagering giant Olympic Sports (http://www.thegreek.com) now is accepting bets on “Summer Slam,” a pay-per-view extravaganza presented by World Wrestling Entertainment, from Phoenix, Aug. 24. Can the fall of Western Civilization be far behind?

Oh sure, The Greek understands that the matches aren’t that suspenseful to those who’ve planned their outcome, but he’s willing to gamble that the script writers at the WWE are so clever that players will have a better chance of escaping from a figure-four leg lock than accurately predicting the event’s results. Either that or our man from Athens has had his brains pound into feta cheese from having his head pulverized by a pile driver one too many times.

Among the matches sure to attract the maximum betting limit of $ 50 is a WWE heavyweight title showdown between champion Kurt Angle, who won an Olympic Gold Medal in wrestling before joining the professional ranks, and Brock Lesnar, the former champion. Angle, who began as a villain but for now is a hero in the WWE’s evolving soap opera, opened as a -185 favorite (bet $ 185 to win $ 100). Lesnar, who started out as a fan favorite but has turned evil under the tutelage of WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, the undisputed ringleader of this morality circus, opened as a +155 underdog (bet $ 100 to win $ 155).

McMahon’s son, Shane, also is in action, lining up as a -250 favorite against Eric Bischoff, more provocateur than grappler, and the +190 underdog.

However, there is no proof to the rumor that The Greek is considering posting a wager on whether Stephanie McMahon, the sister of Shane and daughter of Vince, will burst a breast implant during a ring encounter.

Because it features several wrestlers, the Elimination Chamber match is another wagering highlight of the Summer Slam card. In this one, Chris Jericho was installed as the +125 favorite with (Bill) Goldberg, a former lineman for the Atlanta Falcons, a close second choice at +150. Triple H (psst, not his real name) is +300 with Shawn Michaels at +800. Randy Orton, +1000, and Kevin Nash, +1200, are longshots.

Of course, you can’t be a successful professional wrestler without a gimmick, some sort of finishing hold that fans either cherish or fear. The Greek is challenging bettors to predict which of the aforementioned Chamber match performers will deliver his signature move first. Goldberg has the Jackhammer. Triple H, which stands for Hunter Hearst Helmsley (psst, not his real name) has the Pedigree. Jericho has the Walls of Jericho. Nash has the Jackknife Power Slam. Michaels has the Sweet Chin Music.

Folks, you just can’t make up this stuff.

Also on the bill is a Triple Threat match for the United States championship. In this one, Eddie Guerrero lines up as the -250 choice with Chris Benoit offered at +300 and Rhyno (psst, now his real name) quoted at +800.

If you’ve been paying attention then you know that you don’t compete for the US title without a finishing maneuver. Accordingly, The Greek (his finishing move is to either pay out or collect the money) has a price on who Benoit will victimize with the Crossface, who Rhyno will Gore, (what a beast) and who Guerrero will Frog Splash.

And of course no WWE card would be complete without an ample display of female curves. This time it’s a search contest to name a new WWE Diva, which, other than alimony receiving ex-spouse, is about the best thing a woman can be called in the WWE. Yes, that crazy Greek fellow has a line up on this, too.

All wagers, as well as more traditional bets on baseball, football, boxing, auto racing, soccer and tennis, are available on the Olympic Sports web site at http://www.thegreek.com. Click on the “Olympic Live” section on the left menu bar then select “more sports” then “other events” for a complete listing of wrestling propositions.

ProSpot signs World’s Strongest Man as spokesperson

(PRWEB) August 11, 2001

Atlanta, August 8, 2001 – ProSpot, Inc., the Atlanta based company that invented the computerized ‘spot’ less free-weight system, announced today that it had signed Bill Kazmaier, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Strongest Man, to be a spokesperson for the company and to demonstrate the company’s products at the Health & Fitness Business Expo, August 9-11 in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center.

Kazmaier, the first man to ever win three World Strongest Men championships in a row, has signed an agreement with ProSpot to serve as an official company spokesperson and represent the company at trade shows, sports industry conferences and other marketing activities, according to Mike Slawinski, ProSpot CEO.

“Bill Kazmaier is a legend in the world of weight lifting and strength building,” said Slawinski. “Knowing that someone of his caliber not only endorses our products but also uses our system is definitely a coup for us.

“Kaz believes in ProSpot, so much so that has a ProSpot MAX system in his SWAT Gym in Alabama, which he uses the system for his personal workouts,” said Slawinski. The ProSpot MAX is one of three computerized free weight systems developed and marketed by ProSpot.

Kazmaier will work out on the ProSpot MAX system as well as perform other strength demonstrations and sign autographs at the Health & Fitness Expo. His presentations are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., August 9 and 10, at the ProSpot Exhibit, #1035.

Kazmaier, often called “Superkaz”, began his career in power lifting as a football player at the University of Wisconsin, and by 1979, he had captured the American Power Lifting Championship. Over a dozen or so years of competition, he amassed an endless list of national and International strength and lifting titles including the World Power Lifting Championship and world records in the bench press and dead lift.

Kazmaier competed in six Strongest Man World Championships, winning three in a row and placing second, third and fourth in the other three competitions. A former professional wrestler for the WCW, he is frequently seen on national television and is a commentator for ESPN’s coverage of the Strongest Man championship.

The 6’3”, 300 lbs. plus Kazmaier is a former Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Auburn and has been the subject of numerous academic studies on strength.

ProSpot, Inc., an Atlanta based fitness equipment manufacturer, markets three ‘spot’ less weight training systems: ProSpot HOME, MAX, and PRO. Each system, using patent-pending technology, allows users to lift weights without a human spotter, spotting rods or sliding tracks. Instead, a lifter can release a barbell or dumbbells from any position and ProSpot’s touch-sensitive ‘Grab and Go’ cabling device grabs the bar or dumbbells at the point of release.

Founded in 1998, ProSpot markets systems to home users, health clubs, and to collegiate, professional and Olympic athletes. The systems can be found in 100 retail health and fitness stores nationwide, in major health clubs, and in training rooms used by the Atlanta Falcons, the Orlando Magic, the University of Texas, the University of Nebraska, and the University of Oregon.

Full Sail Student Quickly Becomes Young Filmmaker on the Rise

(PRWEB) June 22, 2005

Full Sail Real World Education is proud to announce that Film student, Amber Goerish, 21, sold her first script to a major motion picture studio. The studio is planning to begin pre-production on the film within the year, which Goerish has been developing for seven years and describes as horror mystery.

After arriving at Full Sail, Goerish was motivated to shop her script and a guest speaker provided her with a list of screenplay agents. Out of the 57 she presented to, 25 called back with interest. Although she was somewhat surprised in the immediate attention, Goerish adapted quickly. “I really believe in my script,” she says. “I believe in the story because it’s truly unique.” Goerish then selected a female agent from the interested parties whom she felt would look out for her more in a very competitive industry. Amber’s choice proved to be a good one. Three weeks later, she got a call from her agent informing her that the script was being sold.

Goerish is already planning for her future. With the money that she has earned, she plans to open a soundstage with several other Full Sail grads in the Vermont area, strategically located an hour from New York and Boston. She hopes the soundstage will attract big productions, but she also wants to accommodate independent filmmakers as well. “I could not have done this without coming to Full Sail. It was a major inspiration to make all of this happen,” said Goerish.

Amber Goerish is just one of the many remarkable graduates who walk through the doors of Full Sail and go on to accomplish fantastic feats. Goerish’s story is not only one of following a dream, it is one of inspiration for so many young adults who find their own voice in the stories of others. In the words of Full Sail, “If you’re serious about your dream, we’ll take your dream seriously.” Goerish is proof of exactly that.

For more than 25 years, Full Sail graduates have been making their mark on the digital media and entertainment media industries. Recent graduate credits include work on Oscar-winning films such as: The Incredibles, Million Dollar Baby, and Spider-Man 2, best-selling video games including: Madden NFL 2005, Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath, and The Matrix Online, and GRAMMY-winning albums by Ray Charles, Usher, and OUTKAST. Full Sail graduates have also been involved in creating motion graphics and Web Sites for companies such as ABC, Nike and the Atlanta Falcons, and have been in lead positions in the live event industry with artists and companies such as Madonna and Cirque du Soleil: La Nouba at Walt Disney World.

In April 2000, Shift Magazine ranked Full Sail as the No. 3 top new media school alongside the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (No. 1) and New York University (No. 2). In the January 2003 edition of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Full Sail was named one of the top five Game Design schools in the world. For more information, please visit http://www.fullsail.com.
