Paralyzed Former Football Player On the Move: Reaches out to Newly paralyzed victim

(PRWEB) October 2, 2003

+On Monday October 6, 2003, the 4th anniversary of his football injury, Rob Komosa is hosting a press conference to be held at 2004 Woodview Drive, Mount Prospect at 4:30 PM. Rob will share news of how he fights to overcome the aftermath of his own injury by looking beyond himself and helping others. In Komosa’s own life things have gone from bad to worse.

Paralyzed quadriplegic Rob Komosa will spend the day of his injury not wallowing in self-pity, but reaching out to help another young man recently paralyzed.

+Rob, and young quadriplegic, Kyle Signorelli and his family, along with a representative from the Chicago Bears, and Tom Touhy, Executive Director of the Dreams for Kids Foundation teams will meet at the Komosa home at this time. Rob is launching a campaign to assist Kyle and his Naperville family obtain a wheelchair accessible van. Kyle’s spinal cord injury occurred 20 months ago.

FROM BAD TO WORSE

Monday, October 6, is the anniversary of a date four years ago that 21 year-old quadriplegic Rob Komosa can’t get out of his head. This was the tragic day that has placed him on a life support ventilator unable to move anything below his chin. The life-changing injury happened during football practice at Rolling Meadows High School when he was forcefully tackled into a fence post on the sideline. The aftermath of the impact of that injury to Rob head and spinal cord lingers on. It remains a miracle that he survived and still is called a miracle that his attitude is positive and hopeful. Rob’s body still uncontrollably trembles every few moments. His insurance does not cover any of the 24-hour specialized nursing he requires. He has no access to physical therapy. His mother had to quit her job to provide care for him, round the clock. Rob regrets not being able to go to college as he would need to be assisted in class by both a nurse. There is no money for any of that. Rob depends upon donations and state funding for most of his extensive day-to-day needs. He is not connected to any research projects like well-known superstar Christopher Reeves. In the big picture, many aspects of his life have gone from bad, to worse.

ROB RECRUITS BEARS AND DREAMS FOR KIDS

Rob Komosa and Rocky Clark were generously presented with an opportunity to auction off tickets for two persons to raise the nets behind the goals at the November 2nd Bears home game at the renovated Soldier Field as a way to help them raise funds for their college plans. The boys have chosen to share the proceeds with Kyle Signorelli a former Naperville Central student who became paralyzed following a spinal cord injury sustained in a fight. Rob and Rocky know firsthand the difficulty of getting a wheelchair accessible van as a first step toward picking up the pieces of their lives after spinal cord injuries derailed their mobility. Rob with the help of the Bears, and Dreams for Kids Foundation previously formed a team with Chicago media personalities last year at this time to help Eisenhower football player, Rocky Clark get his wheelchair accessible van. Instead of wallowing in self-pity and depression, Rob is working hard to overcome his difficult circumstances by building alliances to assist others. Note: Rob meets Kyle and his family for the first time today. Komosa recently heard about Kyle’s spinal cord injury in July after reading about his story in the Daily Herald as the person who paralyzed him was recently sentenced to serve time for the attack.

ANN KOMOSA SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON

Rob has mobilized his friends and supporters to help his younger sister Ann meet college expenses. Ann is beginning her third year at NIU in DeKalb. The event will be held on Saturday October 11, 2003 at 11:30 A.M. at the White Eagle Restaurant in Niles. The restaurant is located at 6839 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Niles. The cost of the event will be $ 35. Contact Betsy Wilson at 847-253-8775 for reservations. Wheelchair Olympian, Linda Mastandrea is the keynote speaker. Ann Komosa will also speak sharing her personal perspectives about using personal strength and courage in tough times.

Telestrator Invention Wins Emmy Just In Time For Super Bowl

(PRWEB) February 7, 2005

Twenty three years ago, TV coverage of Football and many other sports changed dramatically when the Telestrator—that now famous and familiar TV sketching device that enables experts to draw those glowing free-hand explanations right on your screen — made its national debut before the huge audiences watching SuperBowl XVI. The device has been used globally ever since. But this year, its inventor, Chicago-based physicist Dr. Len Reiffel, was especially proud of his brainchild when those enlightening scribbles appeared on TV screens during last night’s Super Bowl XXXIX.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences had just presented Reiffel with its 2004 Engineering EMMY for his pioneering efforts in developing Telestrator technology. Reiffel’s award is only the second in more than 10 years given to an individual rather than to a company or group.

The first public showing of Telestrator was in the late 60’s when Reiffel hosted a TV series on science at WTTW-Ch11, Chicago in cooperation with the Chicago City Colleges. The first sale of a Telestrator was also in Chicago, at WBBM-Ch2 in the mid-seventies. (Early pictures of Telestrator in use at Ch2 are available. The early Telestrators were almost as big as small refrigerators. Nowadays high school kids could build one with a few chips and a touch screen.) The original application at Ch2 was in the weather segment, but Johnny Morris (ex-Chicago Bear and Sportscaster for WBBM) evaluated its use for NFL games, and Johnny and Reiffel’s team tried it out on a few Chicago Bear games. CBS then used Telestrator in the 1981 NFL Playoff Games, and at Super Bowl XVI, which allowed John Madden to be the first one to take The Telestrator national. Reiffel recalls, “When Madden first used The Telestrator in the playoffs and Super bowl, I was standing right next to him ready to help with any malfunctions or confusion. I soon learned that he got very excited when on-air. He’s a very big guy. As he jumped around and pointed and drew his “Telestration”, there were times when he almost knocked me right out of the announce booth.” Madden, of course, quickly became the most visible user of Telestrator technology in America.

When the Awards Committee asked Madden if he thought that the Telestrator was Emmy worthy, he said this in typical John Madden fashion: “Heck, I don’t know what’s taken you folks so long. The Telestrator is a great technical device that deserves the award.”

In its recommendation for the Award the Committee report stated: “There are so many telestration devices employed and manufactured today by a number of companies around the world that one must know that the Telestrator has made a tremendous impact. Telestration equipment is utilized in all aspects of media, and multi-media, education, and corporate communications – in live and interactive presentations or programs. Just a quick search on “Google” with a key word “Telestrator” will bring you enormous amounts of information (4700 hits) on uses for this technology. In our broadcast television world it is hard to watch a sporting event, weather cast, or news show that does not employ telestration techniques and technology.”

As for Len Reiffel, a prolific inventor and holder of about fifty patents, he has moved on to other things. Exelar Corporation. (http://www.exelarmedical.com), which he heads, is developing his inventions for improving radiation treatment of cancer using a novel superconducting magnet technique. Another series of his inventions, designed to create “Attentive Spaces” that can conduct many complex tasks simultaneously, is being developed by his Luxelar Corporation (http://www.luxelar.com). “In an Attentive Conference Room, a whole group of John Maddens could do Telestrator-like things just by waving their fingers in mid-air. Now that would be quite a sight,” Reiffel says with a smile.

Book changes lives of men in California prison!

(PRWEB) August 25, 2004

A few days ago I received the following testimonial from Bill, of San Diego, for my book “Heart Attack Survivor – a field guide; ISBN: 0971278806.

Bill stated “I sent a copy of your wonderful book to a person in prison and he thinks it is great. It is being passed around in the prison for many to read and benefit. Thank you for turning a horrible experience into something powerfully positive for many! As Martha Stewart would say, “That’s a good thing.”"

The book has been read by wonderful people from all walks of life and from all over the world, but this is the first time (that I know of) that someone who is incarcerated in the Penal system has written to praise the books message.

Being an author, I am so excited to hear from my readers how the book has changed their lives for the better. When I got Bills email, it really tweaked my interest. I had to find out more about who this person in prison was.

Immediately firing off a email to my friend in San Diego resulted in him replying back to me that the person who he sent the book to was arrested for drug use, given probation, then violated probation with a

positive urine test for drugs, and was then sentenced to spend time behind bars in California’s Chino Men’s Colony serving time and getting NO help with his problems.

We all deal with our own demons in life (self imposed or otherwise), but I can’t even imagine the life these people endure while behind bars. I am so thrilled that this man has benefited from the book’s message, and that he has passed it to other inmates, so they too,

will benefit from its reading.

What magic reveals itself between the first and last pages of this book that has the power to change the lives of prisoners – by turning a horrible experience into something powerfully positive for many?

Dick Butkus, NFL Hall of Famer and Chicago Bear Legend has graciously said about “Heart Attack Survivor”

“I picked up your book at Steve Thomas BMW last Thurs. Friday I had a flight from LAX to Pittsburgh and I couldn’t put the book down the whole trip! So much of the “stuff” one goes thru after an attack or even the 5-way bypass I experienced was dealt with in a very thought provoking manner. It is Sunday night and I have tried a few of the suggestions and can honestly say that there has been a change in my attitude in two short days. I have roughly 787 marbles to go!

Thank you for reminding me to make them all count,”

Dr. Richard Carlson, author of “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” says about Heart Attack Survivor – a field guide:

“Practical, helpful, and full of great life-affirming advice. Anyone with a heart, healthy or not, will enjoy this book!”

Jody Sasaki, Eight-time National Black Belt NBL Champion says:

“Heart Attack Survivor” is a must read. This is not just a book about surviving. It’s really about how to W.I.N. in life despite all the challenges we all encounter. ( W.I.N. “What’s Important Now” – Keith

Harrell)

Educational, Entertaining, Inspiring and motivating. Brad’s insights capture your “heart”. If you are beginning your journey towards a better life or you are already on your quest for enlightenment, this book is for you. I’ve always said, “The Quest for Success begins Within”. I couldn’t think of a better place to begin… start with the Heart.”

Unique Weighted X2 Vest To Deliver Babies, Weight Loss and More

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 2, 2006

The man who developed the X2 Vest will reveal all the secrets of how you can lose weight, tone and more at the annual Club Industry Show, Health and Fitness Expo on October 4 ? 7, 2006 held at Chicago?s McCormick Place, booth 953.

George Morrison, sports performance enhancement coach to professional athletes in the NFL, MLB and NBA, developed the unique X2 Vest, a weighted vest that can burn up to 70 percent more calories when you wear the X2 and add it to your normal activity. Morrison is also a former U.S. Olympic Strength and Conditioning Coach.

According to Morrison: ?Regardless of body shape or size, the X2 Vest is the definitive answer to weight loss, total body conditioning, improved strength and enhanced performance.? Morrison goes on to say, ?I?ve always had a passion to help fine-tune the body whether it be for the athlete or someone who simply wants to get in better shape. Plus, I would like to put an end to obesity. I wanted to help in someway, so I created the X2 Vest.?

One of the most recent news stories concerning the X2 Vest comes from Chicago where George Morrison and a top infertility specialist are credited with creating the unparalleled Fit and Fertile Program to help overweight infertile women get pregnant. In March of this year, that program began with 17 overweight infertile women hoping to lose enough weight to improve their chances of getting pregnant. Six months later, six of those women are pregnant. That?s an average of one pregnancy per month.

The X2 Vest is an adjustable weight vest that can easily be worn in the gym, outdoors, or just around the house. The X2 Vest works safely and effectively allowing the individual to add weight to their CORE (the mid-section of the body) in one-pound increments. Adding weight to your body requires more muscle fibers to be called into action, thus requiring more calories to be burned, which allows for muscle development and weight loss.

The X2 Vest . . .

Can increase metabolic rate and burn up 70% more calories in same amount of time

Can lose weight, build lean muscle, improve bone density all at the same time

Can wear the X2 vest around the house or added to your exercise routine

The X2 Vest is the consumer version of the award-winning weighted vest known as the XVest, used by U.S. astronauts, firefighters, U.S. Olympians, sports teams including members of the NFL, MLB, NBA and other professional athletes. Chicago Bears 2000 NFL rookie of the Year, Brian Urlacher, is one of the many pro athletes to utilize the XVest in preseason training protocol. The Xvest was voted ?Must Have Fitness Product? by Women?s Health & Fitness Magazine and Shape Magazine. Voted Best Fitness Product 2005? by Muscle & Fitness Magazine. George Morrison is in the process of writing the soon-to-be released book on complete weight best training which will be available early next year.

While in Chicago for the Club Industry Show, Morrison will also kick-off the second group of the Fit and Fertile program in the Northwest suburbs. To attend the Fit and Fertile Program on Tuesday evening October 5th or to interview George Morrison about any aspect related to the X2 Vest or his upcoming book, please contact Linda Blackman at 847-550-9937 or Linda@LindaBlackman.com.

Sports Photography Comes to Life as SPORT Magazine Returns with Limited Edition Fine Art Prints

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) November 29, 2006

Sports Photography was the hallmark of SPORT Magazine. Now, six years after SPORT magazine ceased publication, the classic images that established SPORT as a cultural icon in post-war America are available. The SPORT Gallery has launched an initial series of fine art prints from The SPORT Collection comprising 30 limited edition giclee images drawn from nine different sports.

Fondly recognized today as pure Americana, SPORT magazine launched in 1946 (eight years before Sports Illustrated) and was an instant hit. It rose to well over a million in circulation by featuring the work of the greatest writers and photographers of the era. SPORT’s ground-breaking use of color photography captivated a generation of young sports fans who often wallpapered their bedrooms with full-page photos that were the magazine’s signature item.

When SPORT magazine folded in the summer of 2000, Allen Barra of the Wall Street Journal called it the greatest of all American sports magazines. Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe described SPORT as “an irreplaceable part of the American sports experience.”

Sports photography was a developing craft when SPORT was born. The magazine quickly pioneered a brand of behind-the-scenes reporting that combined literary excellence with vivid, color photography by the top craftsmen of that era. Those one-of-a-kind images, many of which lay hidden for decades, have now been reprised.

Typical of the limited-edition prints is a color portrait of Jackie Robinson relaxing by the batting cage among the heart of the Brooklyn Dodgers championship team of 1955, a photograph that graced the cover of Roger Kahn’s classic bestseller “The Boys of Summer.” Other examples are matchless images of New York manager Bucky Harris addressing his 1947 club in the Yankee clubhouse; football legend George Halas on the sidelines with stars from the1948 Chicago Bears; the game-day players’ bench of the 1949 Fighting Irish of Notre Dame; Rocky Marciano shadow boxing in 1954; and Montreal Canadiens star Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard, circa 1955, in full flight.

Selected for their artistic qualities and their historical significance, the images are unlike any available in the sports memorabilia and wider photographic markets today.

“In recent years, sport has become a worthy subject for serious aficionados and collectors of fine art photography,” said Wayne Parrish of The SPORT Gallery. “Increasingly, serious collectors are recognizing that high-end, vintage sports photography is more than another type of memorabilia. It is an art form unto itself.”

The SPORT magazine archive consists of almost a quarter million images–color transparencies, black and white negatives, vintage photographic prints and news photographs–covering the world of sports from the 1920s to the 1990s, with the best work concentrated in the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Due to the particular focus on superstars, the archive includes significant files on many Hall of Famers and future Hall of Famers across all the major sports. To name just a few: Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, and Sandy Koufax in baseball; Johnny Unitas, Jim Brown and Joe Namath in football; Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in basketball; Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe in hockey; Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Rocky Marciano in boxing; Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead in golf.

In an appraisal conducted by the leading North American fine art photography appraisal house, the SPORT magazine archive is described as “among the most significant resources for 20th century photographic images of American sports figures in the world.”

The production of all limited-edition pieces is to the strictest archival standards, resulting in giclee fine art prints that are of museum-quality. Each is printed on 100% Hahnemuhle cotton rag paper using UltraChrome K3 pigmented inks. Additionally, each print is hand titled and numbered, carries The SPORT Collection emboss, and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

About The SPORT Gallery

The Sport Gallery is the exclusive representative for The SPORT Collection and the SPORT magazine Photographic Archives. The Gallery has access to thousands of pieces of exceptional sports photography, the majority of which are unique, a large number of which were originally published in SPORT magazine, and many of which have never been seen by the general public.

Blaine’s Business Services Physically Caught in the Middle of the Growing Bears and Colts Rivalry

Highland, IN (PRWEB) January 30, 2007

Bears v/s Colts or Colts v/s Bears?

For most people in the country it’s a clear cut choice on who to support for the Super Bowl XLI – the Indianapolis Colts or the Chicago Bears. But for our company, Blaine’s Business Services, Inc. located in Highland, Indiana we are in-between the two great, warring cities.

Highland, a town within Northwest Indiana is torn between who to support in Super Bowl XLI. It’s not an easy choice for the almost one million people who live in Northwest Indiana, also nicknamed “The Region.” The Northwest Indiana Region is comprised of seven counties: Lake, Porter, La Porte, Newton, Jasper, Pulaski, and Starke.

The Region has much in common with each team’s city. The Region is located within close proximity of Chicago, but is located within the same state as the Colts. Depending on where you live within The Region, a drive to Soldier Field is only about an hour, where the RCA Dome is almost a three hour drive. The Region shares the same time zone with the Bears yet the Colts are in a different time zone. The Region and the Colts share the same state capital city. Chicago and The Region share the shore line of Lake Michigan. At such a close distance to Chicago, many Hoosiers commute on a daily basis into Chicago. We also share the same radio stations and news channels. The Bears held training camp at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana for almost thirty years.

When the Bears temporarily relocated to the University of Illinois in Champaign, because of a renovation of Soldier Field, the team considered holding home games at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, one hour away from The Region, the opposite direction of Chicago.

“It’s perplexing,” says Blaine Hilton, president of Blaine’s Business Services. “We are probably the only people in the country that must deal with this. For some like me it can become problematic, especially when dealing with clients,” Hilton says with a laugh. “Football is deadly serious, and when we have clients on one side of the ball, one wrong word might send our client

Americaneagle.com, a leading Web site design, development, and hosting company based in Park Ridge, IL, today announced the fully redeveloped Web site for Colonial Candle located at http://www.colonialcandle.com. The new Web site represents an overhaul of the site design and functionality in accordance with foremost e-commerce standards and practices.

As the leading manufacturer and marketer of fine quality candles for more than 97 years, Colonial Candle required a Web presence that would showcase their inventory of nearly 1,000 candle products. For the new site, Colonial Candle not only faced the challenge of presenting aromatic products in the online environment, where the sense of smell is absent, but also faced the challenge of presenting their products in a way that would best appeal to their target demographic – women ages 25 to 50. With women accounting for more than 60% of online spending, Colonial Candle had to achieve an e-commerce site that would best meet the needs of the Web’s largest group of shoppers.
