Davidson, NC (PRWEB) September 14, 2009

The College Football Performance Awards announced Toledo quarterback Aaron Opelt as the National Performer of the Week. Michael Floyd, the National Performer of the Week for week one, received Honorable Mention for the Wide Receiver Trophy this week. Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant, the recipient of the 2008 Wide Receiver Trophy, shared Punt Returner Performer of the Week with Louisiana Tech’s Phillip Livas and Georgia Tech’s Jerrard Tarrant – all 3 performers registered punt returns over 80 yards for touchdowns. Former Science Advisor to President Barack Obama, Lawrence Krauss writes, “The CFPA awards will surely prove illuminating and may do for college football fans what objective statistics have done for baseball fans.”

Aaron Opelt’s Performance:

He completed 15-of-23 passes with no interceptions and also ran for 109 yards on eight carries. He totaled 428 yards of offense, 319 in the air and 109 on the ground. His 109 rushing yards was a career high and the first time a Toledo quarterback gained at least 100 yards since Tavares Bolden gained 115 yards vs. Central Michigan in 1999 (Courtesy of Toledo Athletics).

About the College Football Performance Awards:

The goal of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

As many scholars have articulated, CFPA eliminates the politics and biases in the college football awards process. Harvard Society Fellow and NFL Consultant, Andrew Zimbalist states, “By employing a careful, vetted empirical methodology, CFPA promises to set straight many of the wrongheaded, arbitrary, and exclusionary methods currently employed to assess player awards in Division I FBS football.” Distinguished mathematician and National Science Foundation Career Award winner Amy Langville writes, “Most sports awards are unscientific. CFPA is a welcome addition for fans and players demanding equity.” And C. Richard King, past-President of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport adds, “In contrast with other awards, CFPA has a clear methodology that works against bias, avoids the dangers of regional popularity and national celebrity, and demonstrates in a reliable fashion the most talented performers.”

Historic Player Awards:

The 2009 Punt Returner Trophy and 2009 Kickoff Returner Trophy, presented by the College Football Performance Awards, will be the first national player trophies to recognize achievement at the positions. The 2008 Kickoff Specialist Trophy, conferred to Dallas Cowboy kicker David Buehler, was the first national player trophy to honor a kickoff specialist.

October is Dental Hygiene Month: NY Celebrity Dentist Reveals the Secrets to Achieving a Clean, Healthy, Picture Perfect Smile

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 1, 2010

What does it mean to have an A-List smile? In recognition of October?s National Dental Hygiene Month, award-winning New York celebrity dentist Dr. Catrise Austin reveals the secrets to achieving and maintaining a clean, healthy, picture perfect smile with her book, 5 Steps to the Hollywood A-List Smile: How the Stars Get That Perfect Smile ? And How You Can Too! (Morgan James Publishing, Health/Fitness, ISBN# 9781600376443, $ 17.95). To put it more simply, Dr. Austin shows dental patients across the globe how to achieve their own unique ?A-List? smile, which is not just about having a brighter smile, but also having more confidence and an overall brighter outlook on life.

5 Steps to the Hollywood A-List Smile brings together a winning mixture of a consumer guide to modern dentistry and a self-help guide to cultivating stellar self-confidence, drawing upon Dr. Austin?s expertise as ?dentist to the stars.? In this consumer friendly read, Dr. Austin cuts to the chase with a five-step system that shows readers how to assess their smiles, tips on choosing a dentist, up to date information on the hottest dental products and procedures on the market, tips on how to have a celebrity smile without having a celebrity budget, how to find low cost and even FREE dentistry in this economy, along with ways to care for their A-List smile. Throughout, Dr. Austin focuses on how to make the best choices for each individual reader, encouraging them to get the smile of their dreams so that they can quit worrying about their teeth and start living life to the fullest.

In today?s economy, Dr. Austin says that one of her biggest concerns is access to affordable dental insurance and quality dental care. ?I meet so many people who want dental care, who need dental care, but just can?t afford a quality individual dental plan due to the high monthly dental insurance premiums. Employers are more likely to drop their employee?s dental insurance before dropping the medical insurance because dental insurance isn?t viewed as much as a ?necessity? as medical. As a result, patients are resorting to ?do it yourself? dentistry and trying to cope with the dental diseases and problems until their teeth hurt and they have to seek dental care. Then when they do seek dental care, usually the most affordable options like pulling the teeth are not always the best options?.

Dr. Austin?s actively promotes dental health to the masses by using social media and blogging, by making public appearances at community and corporate health fairs, lecturing for organizations and college programs, and serving as an expert for various media outlets. Dr. Austin?s goal during Dental Hygiene Month is to properly educate as many as possible about the importance of dental health. ?A lot of people have never been taught ?the rules? of dental health care. You know?..How to brush properly and what type of toothbrush and toothpaste is recommended, why flossing is important daily and how to floss, and why it?s important to see a dentist every 6 months (some people with advanced gum disease even have to go every 3-4 months). Surprisingly, even some of my biggest clients in the entertainment industry have needed ?basic training? on dental care?.

About Dr. Catrise Austin:

As the first private practice dentist in the nation certified to offer HIV testing to patients while in the dental chair, Dr. Catrise Lynette Austin is a trailblazing expert in the field of dentistry. She is a professional speaker, entrepreneur, and founder of VIP Smiles-a modern dental practice in New York City. Notable celebrities such as Paula Abdul; Dancing With The Stars dancers Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy; Apprentice Diva Omarosa; HBO?s Entourage Actor Rex Lee; Songstress Toni Braxton; TV talk show host Wendy Williams; Food Network Chef Sunny Anderson; Dallas Cowboy tight end Martellus Bennett, 2010 Olympic gold medalist Ashleigh McIvor, and Grammy Award-winning rapper Common (to name a few) have all placed their teeth in her capable hands. Austin is an award-winning dentist and columnist who has solidified her reputation in her field with national radio as well as national TV appearances on The Discovery Health Channel, Today Show, and Good Morning America, among others. Dr. Austin is available for local and national interviews, as well as speaking engagements on dental health, HIV testing in the dental office, entrepreneurship, careers in dentistry, and improving your image with your smile.

October is National Dental Hygiene Month: Celebrity Dentist Dr. Catrise Austin Encourages a Dental Visit This Month

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 18, 2010

October is National Dental Hygiene Month, a time for all consumers to reconsider their oral health habits, and to consider enhancing their smiles through cosmetic dentistry by visiting their dentist.

Today’s dental hygienists no longer solely clean patients’ teeth. A contemporary hygienist is responsible for detecting oral cancer, examining cracked crowns, and promoting the benefits of cosmetic dentistry to the patient before the dentist ever looks in the mouth. Dr. Catrise Austin of VIP Smiles located in New York City has a trained staff that goes the extra mile when it comes to dental hygiene and is always ready to serve not only her clients, but the community at large by speaking to the public about oral health and the importance of a beautiful smile. Dr. Austin says, “One of secrets to having a smile like the stars is to have a clean, healthy looking smile”.

Regular professional visits are important because gingivitis, the early stage of periodontal disease, is usually painless and patients may not be able to detect it on their own. “Don’t ignore the warning signs of gum disease,” says Dr. Austin. “Red, swollen or tender gums; Gums that bleed with brushing; and recurring bad breath are all key signs of gum disease. In my practice, 75% of my new patients have gum disease and don’t even have a clue until after we’ve assessed the health of their gums!”

Dr. Austin takes the time to perform a 4 step gum evaluation on each and every patient in her practice. Here’s how it works:

Step 1, Dr. Austin does a thorough evaluation of each tooth checking for cavities, defective fillings, and tooth mobility.

Step 2, she checks the gum tissues for redness, swelling, abscesses, as well as for oral cancer lesions.

Step 3, x-rays are taken to detect hidden tartar and bone loss due to gum disease.

Step 4, Dr. Austin measures the spaces between your teeth and gums (these are called “pockets”) to see if the pockets are shallow, cleansable, and do not bleed upon touch (healthy) or if the pockets are deep, traps food/bacteria, and bleed upon touch (unhealthy).

Based on the results of her examination, Dr. Austin is then able make an accurate diagnosis of her patients’ gums and customize a professional gum therapy plan that individual patient. Fortunately, early gum disease such as gingivitis is completely reversible with professional treatment and oral home care. “Brushing frequently and most importantly flossing are the habits that I teach my patients to do at home between visits” say Dr. Austin. “Once my patients are educated on the importance of keeping their pockets cleaned by flossing at home, I usually see a major improvement when they return for check up visits”. Visiting a dental hygienist and dentist team, every six months or as scheduled, is vital in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. If left untreated, early gum disease can lead to a more serious form of gum disease called periodontitis which can result in tooth loss and other life threatening health problems!

In addition to daily care and visiting a dentist-hygienist dental team, total oral health requires proper nutritional habits. Several foods that help build healthy teeth and gums include:

Warning: Will The Real Source Code Please Stand Up

Gainesville, VA (PRWEB) April 1, 2011

As Gyllenhal?s movie The Source Code draws red carpet attention, real source codes are at the mercy of the world?s cyber criminal elite. Proprietary financial and personal information is in global danger. Intelligent cyber terrorists are in abundance and looking for their next victim through unique computer source code infiltration. William A. Thau?s fictional suspense novel The Source Code, is a daunting examination into a world held hostage by the reality of identity theft and the criminal minds behind it. Thau?s focus on the chaos and destruction following individuals who fall prey to cyber theft, also brings to light potential downfall that could impact the global economy, all done without alarming government banks of $ 10 billion in stolen assets.

Thau?s The Source Code offers new perspective on worldwide vulnerability in identity protection issues. Source Code alteration through the use of cyber worms, which are designed to find loop holes in number strings and implant undetectable viruses for file corruption and key stroke monitoring, financial identity theft and sometimes political control, are of great interest in recent media. The subject matter of Thau?s 2005 novel seems to be an eerie foreshadowing of recent events, exemplified by a January 21, 2010 business feature article in The New York Times entitled, “Fearing Hackers Who Leave No Trace”. “The crown jewels of Google, Cisco Systems or any other technology company are the millions of lines of programming instructions, known as source code, that make its products run. . . . If hackers could steal those key instructions, and copy them, they could easily dull the company’s competitive edge in the marketplace. More insidiously, if attackers were able to make subtle, undetected changes to that code, they could essentially give themselves secret access to everything the company and its customers did with the software. The fear of someone building such a back door, known as a Trojan horse, and using it to conduct continual spying is why companies and security experts were so alarmed last week.”

Yet another feature article by the New York Times written by Michael Wines on Jan. 6, 2010, chronicled a $ 2.25 billion lawsuit directed at two Chinese technology firms by California software company Green Dam, which develops website blocking tools, due to 3,000 lines of code that were stolen, in an effort to enable Chinese government censors to block political and religious speeches, as well as content the government deemed unsuitable, such as the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.

Thau presents readers with plausible language on his subject matter through the novel?s fictional characters, as he explores the potential and realistic impacts of Source Code hijacking risks. ?. . . We?re dealing with cyber-terrorists. They?re so smart that they?re making us feel stupid. In this world of cyberspace, where our wealth consists of numbers on a computer screen, they can steal our assets and military secrets in less than a second,? states the FBI Director in Thau?s novel, as she addresses the serious affect Source Code criminals could have on the world?s global state. Thau?s focus is to inspire readers to ponder the dangerous outcome of the world?s financial assets and citizen identities held solely in the hands of top intellectual and power-hungry criminal networks.

In an age when people are becoming more reliant on computers for both work and personal use, exposure to cyber-hackers and the risk associated with not only personal identify theft, but on a larger scale, potential sole ownership of international funds by global financial terrorists, is escalating at an alarming rate. Identity theft can encompass everything from using another person’s name and personal information without consent, to stealing a credit card number and misusing bank information. The FTC estimates that nearly nine million Americans have their identities stolen each year, the majority of which take decades to recover. Fact and fiction, Thau?s novel of terrified victims and global criminals is an intriguing eye opener into the functionality and risks associated with the real Source Code.

About The Author:

William A. Thau is a native of Webster Groves, Mo., and one of the preeminent lawyers in the country. A 1962 graduate of Georgia Tech, one of the nation?s top five science and engineering universities, he earned his juris doctorate from the University of Texas in 1965, Thau served as Chairman of Real Estate for the law firm Dallas, Jenkens & Gilchirst in Dallas, Texas, as well as Chairman of Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law section of the Texas State Bar. Voted by his peers as one of the best lawyers in America for over 20 years, Thau?s highly successful client portfolio included the Dallas Cowboys. He has also written suspense novels Non-Recourse and The Window Of Time, along with a treatise on complex real estate transactions. Proving his keen sense of what intrigues readers in the suspense genre, and peeks interest from his industry, Thau has received unsolicited rave reviews from Kirkus Reviews and others for his work. Thau resides in St. Simons Island, Ga., with his wife Jane. The couple has three children and eight grandchildren.

NFL’s Bledsoe, Olympians Zamperini and Kusner to be Enshrined in World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame

Boise, ID (PRWEB) May 20, 2005

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe, 1936 Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, and three-time equestrian Olympian Kathy Kusner will be enshrined in the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame (http://www.sportshumanitarian.com) for their efforts as role models and humanitarians at its 11th annual induction ceremonies June 8 in Boise, Idaho.

The Humanitarian Hall of Fame, located on the Boise State University campus, annually inducts individuals who are world-class in athletic ability, role models in their community and have a strong record of humanitarian efforts. Since President Gerald R. Ford served as its first honorary chairman in 1994 over 30 sports-humanitarians have been enshrined including tennis great Arthur Ashe, major league baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson, NFL coaching legend Tom Landry, the NBA’s David Robinson, and soccer great Pelé.

The inductions are accompanied by an annual humanitarian award program recognizing community role-models from all corners of the athletic world. The 2005 award winners include 1969 Heisman Trophy winner, Steve Owens of the University of Oklahoma, the Sacramento Kings and Monarchs of the NBA and WNBA, Lynn and Sally Stiles of Muscatine, Iowa’s Youth Sports Foundation and Bill Crookham of Caldwell, Idaho.

Ceremonies get underway at 6pm, June 8 at Boise’s Centre on the Grove. Tickets are $ 50 for adults ($ 16.50 for youth under 12) and available by contacting the Hall at 208-343-7224.

The 2005 class of humanitarians includes the Cowboys’ Bledsoe, a former first round draft pick out of Washington State University, and current number ten career passing yardage leader in the NFL. The father of four is being recognized for his efforts to improve the lives of children most notably as a catalyst for the Parenting with Dignity curriculum developed by his parents, Mac and Barbara. The curriculum, which is estimated to have reached 1.75 million American families, teaches parents how to teach their own family values to their children and how to teach their children to make decisions based on these values. Its message is focused on helping parents and caregivers rethink their approach to discipline, punishment and empowerment.

Two U.S. Olympians, Zamperini and Kusner round-out this year’s class. Zamperini, the top American 5,000 meter runner at the 1936 Berlin Olympics who, after his B-24 crashed into the Pacific during World War II, began a two year odyssey that included 47 days adrift in a life raft and interment as a POW, has since spent a lifetime of teaching forgiveness skills to war veterans, youth and others.

Kusner is a three-time Olympian and silver medalist at the 1972 Munich Games, gold and silver medal winner in two Pan American Games appearances, and the first woman to be licensed as a jockey in the U.S. Her South Central Los Angeles “Horses in the Hood” program helped over 450 at-risk youth learn the value of responsibility and discipline through horsemanship.

“The City of Boise is proud to be the home of the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame, the only athletic museum of its kind in the nation,” said Boise Mayor David Bieter. “At a time when the sports pages are increasingly dominated by reports of scandal and questionable behavior, our Hall of Fame casts a spotlight on those extraordinary individuals whose physical talent and moral character make them positive role models for kids and adults alike,” added Bieter. “I look forward to this year’s World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame induction ceremony as another opportunity to underscore the oldest rule in sports: ‘It’s how you play the game that counts’.”

“Many of our most recognized athletes make positive impacts in their communities through their humanitarian efforts, yet their acts of selflessness are often not recognized,” said Myron Finkbeiner, founder of the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame. “The Humanitarian Hall of Fame endeavors to showcase our role-model athletes who are humanitarians and preserve their legacy.”

AMG Sports Unveils New Website from Zunch

(PRWEB) March 9, 2003

AMG creates brand and franchise value by providing marketing, management and content development services in sports, entertainment, enterprise and philanthropy. Founded in 1985 by Werner Scott, President of AMG, the company has earned a reputation for helping its clients win market share while building their brand. AMG’s services include strategic market development, celebrity marketing and management, talent representation, event marketing and management, licensing and brand franchise development.

Most notably, AMG represents Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith and has been instrumental in the development of Smith’s marketing platforms and advertising campaigns that have built his franchise while providing superior returns to his commercial partners. In addition to Smith, AMG also represents other stars such as Rolando Blackman, former Dallas Mavericks star.

Using the same URL (http://www.amgsports.com), Zunch Communications went about giving AMG Sports an updated and a user-friendlier website.

John G. Sanchez, President of Zunch, says that the partnership with AMG is one his company is honored to have made. “This represents a big victory for us. We have done work for some very prestigious names in recent months, and AMG is a name that is well-respected within the field of sports marketing and in the Dallas business community,” said Sanchez.

“AMG Sports’ former site was functional and packed with information, but the interface and the look of it needed to be brought forward,” said Sanchez, “We set about organizing and prioritizing the information about the company and its roster of clients such as Emmitt Smith and Rolando Blackman and made it easier to access that information.”

Gina Hamm, Creative Director along with Senior Developer Dan Slater, was charged with creating the overall design and functionality of the new site and worked with AMG representatives to create a web presence that is “comprehensive, clear, and clean.”

“AMG’s scope is broad,” says Slater, “Conveying that scope within the confines of the web was our task. We didn’t want to overwhelm the audience, and at the same time we couldn’t leave anything out. Our client is pleased and so are we.”

WWW.AMGSPORTS.COM features company information, news, updates, press releases, and a section on the sponsorship opportunities tied to the company’s clients.

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Zunch Communications, Inc. (http://www.zunch.com) is an interactive professional services firm providing strategic, creative and technical solutions dedicated to achieving results for its clients.
