Fort Pierce, FL (PRWEB) February 28, 2007

When the Chicago Bears made their way to SUPER BOWL XLII, a ticket was hard enough to get but hotel rooms were even tougher and much more expensive to get. Fans said “forget about it, you might as well give it up, you can forget about it” and that “you’d be better off trying to get to Play in the Big Game yourself.”

Now there’s another way to see such big events. Junior Maheu’s family loves the New York Giants, and they were able to go the Super Bowl at a fraction of the cost. “People were paying an average of $ 2,500 for a hotel room,” says Maheu. “It would have cost $ 5,000 for 2 (5 star) hotel rooms, ended up costing only $ 295.” He used http://www.14SB.com Web site to take a chance on his team 2 weeks after the beginning of the season. That means he agreed to a price months ahead of time. See http://www.superbowl-rooms.com/Free_Superbowl_Hotel_Rooms.html

Better teams with a higher probability of post season success cost more. For example, on http://www.Superbowl-Rooms.com right now, a 5 star luxury resort hotel room for 4 nights for the Detroit Lions at the Tampa Super Bowl XLIII is going for about $ 73.00 That’s right, only seventy three dollars. On the other hand, a budget hotel/motel for the Chicago Bears will cost you $ 273.00 Those are NOT price per night but an all inclusive price for 4 nights including taxes. Site owners say average fans love this option. “They may never have an opportunity to pay you know $ 50 or $ 100 to actually go to a huge event like the Super Bowl,” says Alan Bachand of Superbowl-Rooms.com.

Consumer advocates say sports fans need to enter into these contracts with a clear head. Consumer advocates say “you might end up with a real bargain or you might end up with nothing.” That’s right. If your team doesn’t make it, you money is spent and you’ll be watching the game on TV.

Experts also say to read the fine print. Check for extra fees on top of your bidding price, make sure you understand everything before engaging in such contracts and that this meets your expectations. But for Junior Maheu, using http://www.14SB.com Web site turned out to be a super deal: “it was once in a lifetime, awesome.”

Similar options are also available for NCAA Final Four hotel rooms… As far as the Beijing 2008 Olympics, http://www.14SB.com simply provides hotels and accommodations as needed.

Boise, ID (PRWEB) May 20, 2005

Steve Owens, the 1969 Heisman winner from Oklahoma, will be recognized with the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame’s (http://www.sportshumanitarian.com) Tradition of Excellence Award at its 11th annual induction ceremonies June 8 in Boise, Idaho.

The Tradition of Excellence Award annually recognizes a Heisman recipient who has distinguished himself in his chosen career and brought honor and distinction to the Heisman Award program. Owens is being recognized as a part of an annual humanitarian awards program along with Humanitarian Hall of Fame inductees Drew Bledsoe of the Dallas Cowboys, 1936 Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, and three-time equestrian Olympian Kathy Kusner.

In addition to Owens, the 2005 humanitarian award recipients include the Sacramento Kings and Monarchs of the NBA and WNBA, Lynn and Sally Stiles of Muscatine, Iowa’s Youth Sports Foundation and Bill Crookham of Caldwell, Idaho.

Ceremonies get underway at 6pm, June 8 at Boise’s Centre on the Grove. Tickets are $ 50 for adults ($ 16.50 for youth under 12) and available by contacting the Hall at 208-343-7224.

Following a successful six-year NFL career, the 1968 & 1969 consensus All-American running back and 1970 first round draft pick of the Detroit Lions has continued in the Heisman tradition of success as the CEO of two insurance services firms in Norman, Okla. and involvement at many levels of the community. Owens is a founder of the Norman Public School Foundation, Miami (Okla.) Public School Foundation and has served as a spokesman for the Ronald McDonald House. He has contributed countless hours to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Child Welfare Citizens Advisory Board, the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Football Foundation and the Advisory Board for the Norman Family YMCA.

At Oklahoma, Owens was selected to the All-Big Eight Conference Team in 1967, 1968 and 1969 and was selected by his teammates as co-captain of the 1969 Sooner squad. As a sophomore, Owens helped lead the 1967 Sooners to a 10 – 1 season capped by an Orange Bowl victory over Tennessee and a number three national ranking by the Associated Press.

The Humanitarian Hall of Fame, located on the Boise State University campus, annually inducts individuals who are world-class in athletic ability, role models in their community and have a strong record of humanitarian efforts. Since President Gerald R. Ford served as its first honorary chairman in 1994 over 30 sports-humanitarians have been enshrined including tennis great Arthur Ashe, major league baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson, NFL coaching legend Tom Landry, the NBA’s David Robinson, and soccer great Pelé.

The 2005 class of humanitarians includes the Cowboys’ Bledsoe, a former first round draft pick out of Washington State University, and current number ten career passing yardage leader in the NFL. The father of four is being recognized for his efforts to improve the lives of children most notably as a catalyst for the Parenting with Dignity curriculum developed by his parents, Mac and Barbara. The curriculum, which is estimated to have reached 1.75 million American families, teaches parents how to teach their own family values to their children and how to teach their children to make decisions based on these values. Its message is focused on helping parents and caregivers rethink their approach to discipline, punishment and empowerment.

Two U.S. Olympians, Zamperini and Kusner round-out this year’s class. Zamperini, the top American 5,000 meter runner at the 1936 Berlin Olympics who, after his B-24 crashed into the Pacific during World War II, began a two year odyssey that included 47 days adrift in a life raft and interment as a POW, has since spent a lifetime of teaching forgiveness skills to war veterans, youth and others.

Kusner is a three-time Olympian and silver medalist at the 1972 Munich Games, gold and silver medal winner in two Pan American Games appearances, and the first woman to be licensed as a jockey in the U.S. Her South Central Los Angeles “Horses in the Hood” program helped over 450 at-risk youth learn the value of responsibility and discipline through horsemanship.

“The City of Boise is proud to be the home of the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame, the only athletic museum of its kind in the nation,” said Boise Mayor David Bieter. “At a time when the sports pages are increasingly dominated by reports of scandal and questionable behavior, our Hall of Fame casts a spotlight on those extraordinary individuals whose physical talent and moral character make them positive role models for kids and adults alike,” added Bieter. “I look forward to this year’s World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame induction ceremony as another opportunity to underscore the oldest rule in sports: ‘It’s how you play the game that counts’.”

“Many of our most recognized athletes make positive impacts in their communities through their humanitarian efforts, yet their acts of selflessness are often not recognized,” said Myron Finkbeiner, Founder of the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame. “The Humanitarian Hall of Fame endeavors to showcase our role-model athletes who are humanitarians and preserve their legacy.”

About The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame

The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame (http://www.sportshumanitarian.com), located on the Boise State University campus in Boise, Idaho, recognizes individuals and organizations from the world of amateur and professional athletics who, through their humanitarian efforts, distinguish themselves as role models in the community.

Since 1994 over thirty role models with world-class athletic ability and exceptional humanitarian achievements have been inducted to the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame. Each year the Hall of Fame, in partnership with Boise’s MPC Computers Bowl, honors a player from each team with its Student Humanitarian Award.

Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) October 23, 2006

Gonicofish.com announced today that founder and CEO, Gina Bassman, is sharing seven tips for teaching children about money.

According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, seventy-three percent of adult Americans rate financial matters as their number one cause of stress. Thus, preparing children to make sound decisions about money can help them avoid future worries and to find greater satisfaction in their adult lives. To that end, Bassman, and her husband, Robert, a CPA, are passing on their financial skills to their six-year-old-son, Nico.

?It?s never too early to teach children how to comparison shop,? laughs Bassman.

She should know. Bassman is the former Senior Financial Director for the Detroit Lions. She left the world of corporate finance after eighteen years of experience in order to spend more flexible time with her son and with her husband, who runs his own CPA firm. While at home, she visited several Internet sites that promised deals from a number of retailers. She found that many of these sites were hard to navigate and that consumers got lost in long, unorganized lists of bargains.

Never one to sit still for long, Bassman came to the aid of on-line bargain hunters. She created Gonicofish.com, a central site where visitors can spot the latest and best bargains, coupons, discount codes, and prices from over five hundred merchants. She developed her own, easy-to-use web design to help customers spot the exact bargain they?re looking for. Shoppers can peruse the site by store, by item name, or by choosing one of eighteen different product categories.

Is it any wonder that Nico is already learning to be a bargain hunter?

?The Internet is a wonderful place to teach your child how to find the best price for items on his or her wish list,? says Gina. ?One evening, Nico and I had fun shopping online for a toy harmonica. Not only did he enjoy looking at all of the pictures, he learned about value and computer skills in the process. He loved searching for the letters on the keyboard, and he looked adorable plucking his way around. It was a great way for us to spend quality time together.?

Of course, there?s more to handling money than bargain shopping. The Bassmans recommend the following seven ideas for parents of children ages three- to twelve-years old. They have found that creative methods like these are helping Nico understand basic financial concepts:

1)Begin as early as possible to teach your child the different denominations of coins and currency. Many kids can master this concept long before they start kindergarten.

2)Give you child a small allowance in an amount that makes it easy to set aside a portion for savings. For example, if the child receives two $ 1.00 bills, he or she can spend one now and save one for later.

3)Start a savings envelope for your child. Label the outside of the envelope with the name or a picture of an item the child would like to have. Let the child put some money in the envelope each time he or she receives an allowance. When the envelope contains enough money, take the child on a fun outing to purchase the desired object.

4)Open a savings account with your child. Take your child on routine visits to the bank so that the child can hand over small deposits. Regularly discuss the child?s passbook, and show the child how the balance is increasing. Praise the child as he or she learns how to save.

(PRWEB) August 29, 2003

The future of sports talk can be heard blasting out of car stereos, workplace radios and even during lunch in downtown Atlanta-area restaurants. As soon as you hear the high-intensity, hip-hop laden intro weekdays at 12 noon, you realize this isn’t your father’s talk radio. “2 Live Stews” have playfully strong-armed their experimental radio gig into a midday timeslot powerhouse.

Ryan and Doug Stewart are brothers who took their love of sports and it’s hip-hop subculture and turned what the nations barbershops, basements and bars have hosted for years into a new generation radio genre. The show combines incredible energy, exciting guests, provocative topics and rich listener participation to generate a stylish competitor to old-school talk radio.

What started as a trial run in a suicidal evening time-slot blossomed into a daytime ratings leader in just over a year. WQXI is Atlanta’s sports talk heavy-hitter and ventured into unknown territory when it granted the radio rookies their first 2-hour show back in October 2001. Since then the show has been on a roll, grabbing an extraordinary wartime ratings share for their first full ratings period and making it the stations highest rated show in history.

They are garnering media attention, attracting non-traditional talk radio sponsors and lighting up the phone lines at unprecedented rates.

Ryan Stewart is the shows proverbial bachelor and a former defensive back for Georgia Tech and the NFL’s Detroit Lions while his older, married brother Doug played football and basketball and attended South Carolina State. Ryan does color commentary for Georgia’s arena football team and is hosting a cable sports show called “The Press Box” for Comcast. Doug is a mortgage lender and devoted father. They are biological and fraternal brothers who squabble about sports and pop culture on and off the air and this real-life sibling rivalry keeps the show fresh and stimulating.

The show’s strong urban sensibility and frankness have appealed to a much more diverse demographic than most talk radio outfits. They remain palatable to the customary listener by keeping their eye on the ball. They talk X’s & O’s and see the sports world thru the eyes of the athlete and fan, not the media, which have endeared them to a new generation of listeners while holding on to the seasoned talk radio participants. In-depth sports knowledge coupled with humor and biting commentary make “2 Live Stews” informative, entertaining and addictive.

“The show has a broad appeal because its fun and we don’t sugarcoat anything,” says Doug “it encompasses a realness that’s refreshing to those who were turned off by talk radio”. The show has had great guests from the sports and entertainment world who have been quickly charmed by the format consequently giving the Stew’s some unforgettable moments and candid perspectives.

“My relationship with some of the guests and my background allow me to get right at the kind of answers we know the audience is looking for” stated Ryan “and at the same time it lets the guest become more comfortable because they know they have no conventional constraints”. With traditional backing and historical perspective lacking, the Stews have continued a grassroots effort to highlight their show and their fiercely loyal fan-base do all they can to help. “Without our listeners, none of this would be possible, we feel such a connection to them and that’s why the show works so well,” added Doug.

If you hear Run-DMC fading into the background, callers reminiscing about their favorite pair of old-school sneakers, and NBA hall-of-famer Bob Lanier cracking jokes while evaluating the impacts of a global NBA on a Thursday afternoon, you’ll know you’re listening to “2 Live Stews”. Throwback Thursday is just one of the weeks themed shows and pays homage to the history of sports and its subculture.

The dry and pessimistic format that usually typifies talk radio is spiced up by the hip-hop bumper music that leads you into and out of commercial breaks and the feeling you get that these guys are excited to be talking sports with the world. With a nod to their fraternity they have coined their talk world the “Dog House” and have claimed Atlanta’s airwaves as their own. They have even managed to attract out-of-state listeners and famous fans who catch them on the Internet.

“Atlanta is a great first market for this show because we have people who have relocated here from all over so we really do get a national perspective” remarked Ryan “and we hope that it gets us poised to make this more than a Georgia phenomenon, we think syndication is the only response to our overwhelming popularity here”.

The Stew’s have created a great new product that advertisers and stations are just starting to catch wind of. As they get ready for another 2 hour joy ride Doug affirmed, “This isn’t just a fun little project, it’s the beginning of a needed change in this industry and it’s a bankable commodity, the money is out there, the marketing and promotional opportunities are so vast with something like this that touches sports, music, radio and pop culture.”

With guests like Charles Woodson, Lisa Leslie, Jermaine Dupri and Tavis Smiley, “2 Live Stews” and their SportsRap are set to thrust talk radio into a much needed revolution.

“2 Live Stews” can be heard weekdays 12pm-3pm eastern time on Atlanta’s 790am and can also be accessed via streaming audio on the stations website at http://www.790thezone.com.

(PRWEB) February 14, 2005

(MAA News)-You may not know Joe Williams, but he’s the brother of deceased Temptation member Paul Williams; he is spearheading a drive to get the world to remember his older sibling’s legacy with the infamous Motown group.

Williams has created the organization Williams to Williams LLC, which is dedicated to the memories of Paul Williams, and donated proceeds from all planned events will be submitted to Sickle Cell research; the genetic disease that older brother Paul was inflicted with.

Williams says that the name ‘Williams to Williams LLC’ is the joining of two families, Paul’s immediate family [widowed wife & children] and his siblings.

Paul Williams was the heart & soul of the Temptations drive to the top of the R&B and Pop charts in the mid 60’s and early 70’s. Paul had to quite the Temptations due to an illness, and was found dead in his car August 17, 1973, from a gunshot wound to the head, not far from Motown Records studio. Paul’s influence in the early years of the Temptations was magnetic. “I brought the lead vocals to the Temptations … Paul and myself” said Eddie Kendricks in an earlier interview before he died of lung cancer October 5, 1992.

Joe Williams is working with a number of sponsors, and organizations to create fund raising events to aacquirethe mammoth home of the Detroit Lions, Ford Field in Detroit. The reason for the numerous fund raisers is the planning of a larger conference entitled “Paul Williams: The Unforgotten Temptation”; the conference will address the history, and legacy of his brother Paul.

A number of invited special guests that knew Paul personally will be invited to the conference, which may also include Kel Osborn of the Primes. Osborn, along with Kendricks, and Williams started their career in Birmingham, Alabama, and eventually made their way to Detroit. Osborn left the group. Kendricks and Williams melted into the Detroit scene and met the group called Otis Williams and the Distance. Both groups joined to become the Temptations.

The first of numerous fund raising campaigns will happen Sunday, February 26, 2005 at Club Network on Broadway in Detroit Michigan. Motown’s alumni, and other stars of Detroit will be invited to support the gala. Motown’s alum can call Darren Gooden to RSVP at (313) 273-1496, and all information pertaining to the fund raiser can be obtained at the same number.

The exact date is unknown for the larger conference, but organizers say that sometime near the end of spring is the planned time period for the event.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) June 7, 2006 ?-

4M Sports & Entertainment proudly announces that Bennie Blades, one of the greatest players ever play in a Miami Hurricane uniform and valued client of 4M Sports & Entertainment, was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Bennie is only one of three Hurricanes to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The others are Ted Hendricks and Don Bosseler. Bennie is the first from the modern era of Hurricane football to be voted into the Hall of Fame.

Blades will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame at the 49th annual Awards Dinner on December 5 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. He joins one of the most significant and impressive classes in years which include the likes of Emmitt Smith, Bruce Smith, Mike Rozier, Charlie Ward and coaches, Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden. The class of 2006 will be officially enshrined at the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana during ceremonies in summer 2007.

“I am ecstatic,” said Blades, who lives in Sunrise, Florida and is now working as a financial analyst and advisor. There have been some great Hurricanes players before me, during my era, and after me, and for God to have blessed me with this honor, well, I’m floored. Words can’t describe what it means to me. This tribute also gives me the opportunity to bring the Blades Foundation to the forefront so we are better able to help children across the country. I have been blessed throughout my life and would like to continue to pass that blessing on to young people and make a difference in their lives.?

Blades played for the Hurricanes from 1985 to 1987. He was named first-team All-America in both 1986 and 1987 by both Associated Press and United Press International, adding honors as a senior in 1987 from Kodak, The Sporting News, the Walter Camp Foundation and the Football Writers Association of America. He received the Jim Thorpe Award as college football’s best defensive back in 1987.

In 1987, Blades led the University of Miami to the national championship and a 12-0 record. He made 124 tackles, intercepted five passes and was named a consensus All-American. He ended his UM career as the school’s all-time leader with 19 interceptions and 305 interception return yards. He also set school records for most consecutive games with an interception (five), total tackles by a safety (286), and unassisted tackles by a safety (155). Blades led the nation in interceptions in 1986 (0.91 per game). He was a first-round draft choice of the Detroit Lions (the third pick overall) in the 1988 NFL draft. He played for the Lions for nine seasons, appearing in 136 games.

?To sum up my UM career, it was a family,” said Blades, now 39. “That’s why I am honored. We were a tight-knit bunch. We played as one. We lived in the dormitories as one. Anybody on those teams from 1985 to ‘87 could have been a star. We pushed each other, and especially with Jimmy Johnson pushing us during practice, the games were easy.”

Johnson, who recruited and coached Blades, said, “Bennie Blades was the most athletic, biggest and strongest defensive back I ever coached. He was a great hitter. He had great instincts and great speed – he had it all. I am really happy for Bennie.?

C.T. Andolina, Managing Partner of 4M Sports & Entertainment, the company that markets and manages the Blades Foundation said; ?We could not be more proud of anyone in out organization than we are of Bennie right now. Bennie works as hard off the field with his foundation as he did on the field when he played. His dedication to the Blades foundation for Children is unmatched. He believes that his induction into the Hall of Fame is a gateway to help raise money for his foundation. I am thrilled to part of this and we will be in the crowd cheering the loudest when he in inducted.?
