Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) July 27, 2010

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is going to turn 41 years old just after the 2010 NFL season gets underway. He is on the books to start his 20th professional season behind center and is coming of his most prolific offensive output in over a decade, leading Minnesota to 12 wins and 33 touchdowns through the air. But he is also less than a week removed from his 3rd serious arthroscopic surgery and one more brutal hit could prove to be his permanent undoing.

20 years ago to the month, orthopedic surgeon to the stars, Dr. James Andrews, repaired his throwing elbow and the rest is professional football history. Prior to his first sports related trip under the knife, right before the start of his senior season at Southern Mississippi, he survived a near fatal car crash that would prove to be the first of many miracles he would experience.

After a shaky start to his career with the Atlanta Falcons, he has rattled off 19 stellar seasons and a seemingly untouchable NFL record 291 consecutive starts for the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and the Vikings. During this record setting run he has collected 181 victories, 497 touchdowns, 11 Pro Bowl selections, 3 MVP awards and a Super Bowl title. But for an unknown reason, it has not been enough.

Even though many would credit his undying will and unequaled ego as the main contributing factors to the longevity of his soon to be Hall of Fame career, but the reality of it is he could not have done it without the expertise and excellence of his doctors and their staff. Most recently it was his left ankle that needed the tweak. Bone spurs and torn cartilage were the culprits, but after a successful surgery at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida, Favre now has full range of motion and should be ready to run rampant and rifle the rock down the field in plenty of time for the preseason to kick off.

Not everybody can afford the luxury of being treated by the world famous Dr. Andrews, but thankfully there are other extremely qualified and board certified orthopedic surgeons around the country that can provide high caliber consultations and operations. One such surgeon is Florida native and current resident, Dr. Manish Gupta of the Specialty Orthopedic Center of Boca Raton.

After graduating from the University of Florida and University of Miami Medical School and completing 7 years of residency and fellowship at Seton Hall University and Union Memorial Hospital, Dr. Gupta served as a team physician on the Baltimore Ravens medical staff during his fellowship. He now gives back to his community with his private practice in Boca Raton.

These specialized and intensive sports related surgeries are expertly performed by Dr. Gupta and his staff at the surrounding hospitals that they are affiliated with. For more information on Dr. Manish Gupta and any of the procedures available through his practice please go to SpecialtyOC.com.

Ever wonder where and how the dancers from the NBA, NFL, AFL, NHL, and other pro and semi-pro sports dance teams do their pre-season training? You have to look no further than ProDance. Rosalyn Jones, founder/CEO shares the secrets to the success of ProDance.

ProDance 2006 will take place July 30-August 2 at LaQuinta Resort & Club and the buzz has already begun. Hundreds of professional sports cheerleaders and dancers representing teams like the Orlando Magic, Minnesota Vikings, Scottish Rockettes, Washington Redskins, Detroit Pistons Automotion and many more are expected to attend ProDance 2006. An awesome mix of trend-setting choreography will be a part of the ProDance experience. Some of the choreographers slated to appear are Kimberley Baum, John Peters, Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo, Marina and Mina Ortega, Shane Sparks, Barry Youngblood, Shawnette Heard, and notable others.

Based on its expanding popularity and increasing attendance rates, ProDance has become the industry leader for professional sports dancers from the NBA, NFL, CFL, NFL Europe, AFL, NHL and other professional sports teams worldwide! We decided to sit down with

Rosalyn Jones, Founder and CEO of ProDance, to find out more about ProDance.

Q: Rosalyn, You started ProDance in 2000 with only 40 pro-sports dancers, 10 choreographers and your drive to provide the pro sports market something that it was missing. How do you feel now as you prepare for the 7th annual ProDance and hundreds of dancers are expected to attend?

RJ: I sincerely appreciate the interest in ProDance. It is the most remarkable dance camp, in my opinion, on the planet! I just want to encourage teams to do everything possible to attend this year.

Q. For someone who has never attended ProDance, how do you explain what ProDance is?

RJ: I can’t begin to explain the ProDance experience. “Some experiences simply do not translate. You have to go to know.” This statement rings so true with ProDance. Just imagine hundreds of professional sports cheerleaders and dancers from the NBA, NFL, AFL, NHL, CFL, and MLB, semi-pro, some collegiate, etc., dancing, learning, sharing, and having an extraordinary time! It’s a very eclectic mix of people who are very passionate about dance. Everyone who attends yearns for more! More knowledge, more choreography, more networking possibilities, more information, more FUN. The passion and camaraderie at this conference is AMAZING. There is electricity in the air. There is joy on the faces of EVERYONE. I don’t even want to begin to describe the choreographers and choreography. You’ve may have seen it on the much-coveted ProDance DVD but to get up close and personal to it…to feel the power of it…to watch dancers really pushing their limits…IT’S AWESOME?TOTALLY INSPIRING.

Q. How would you recommend teams attend ProDance? I mean how many people should come from a particular team to gain the best experience?

RJ: The Most Advantageous way to come to ProDance is to bring at least 10 members of your team. You should put one dancer in each choreographer?s class. Once you begin your rehearsal at home, you have someone who has the routine down pat.

Q. What about the costs, how do teams handle the expense of sending so many dancers to ProDance?

RJ: Some teams who attend are fortunate enough to have their franchises provide the funds for their trip to ProDance. I can tell you, however, that a great majority of teams who attend ProDance do not have this luxury. They get very creative in gathering the funds that are necessary to get to ProDance. They have 4 or more people stay in a room to share expenses. They drive. They take buses. They do fundraisers, etc. It’s astounding and humbling to know what people have done to get to ProDance.

Q. It seems like teams do what ever it takes to get to ProDance. Why do you think that’s so?

RJ: I mean, when you think about it, having access to ten of the most sought after choreographers in the dance industry…well…as the commercial says…it’s priceless. I choreographed and directed the San Antonio Spurs dance team for many years. I could only dream of having Tina Landon, Brian Friedman, John Peters, Cris Judd, Eddie Garcia, etc. come to one of my practices to teach some routines. But, at ProDance, you get all of the benefit of the creativity of these exceptional choreographers and you have the DVD to refer to throughout the year. Just imagine how much time that saves you as a choreographer to not have to create material throughout the year! I cannot tell you what a valuable tool the DVD is… And the only way to get it is to come to ProDance.

Q. Is there anything more you can say to the team director who has never been to ProDance?

RJ: Once you come, you’ll understand all the things I’m trying to express. “What one has not experienced, one can never understand in print.” Besides the dancing, there is so much more to enjoy at ProDance. I’m not going to tell you all the other surprises that happen at this event! I just want you to come and be delighted!

Rosalyn Jones, I want to thank you for your time. I know that you will have great success with ProDance 2006 and beyond.

Minneapolis (Vocus) November 24, 2009

While spending time with family and friends around the holidays tops the charts for most Minnesotans, taking in the holiday lights and coming to downtown Minneapolis to experience the holiday events round out the yuletide festivities. In fact, according to a November 2009 Meet Minneapolis survey, when it comes to the holidays, respondents head to the heart of the city for dinner (31 percent) and holiday events (41 percent).

Festive & Fun

Without a doubt, Minneapolis prides itself on unique experiences that will warm people up on even the coldest of nights. For instance, more than 50 percent of respondents ranked the Macy?s 8th floor auditorium display as their most cherished downtown Minneapolis holiday tradition, followed by the Target Holidazzle Parade (46 percent) and shopping (42 percent).

Surprisingly, only one quarter of respondents have not yet experienced one or all of the revered downtown Minneapolis holiday attractions. However, there are plenty more festivities beyond the most common that visitors have yet to experience, including ice skating at The Depot (60 percent), A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie (41 percent) and the new Gaviidae Market taking place on Fridays Nov. 20 ? Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Stealing the Show

Downtown Minneapolis truly has something to offer everyone, every age and even the finickiest of holiday goers. Other seasonal festivities to consider include:

Guthrie Theater?s A Christmas Carol, Nov. 19 to Dec. 31
Hennepin Stages: A Don?t Hug Me Christmas Carol, Nov. 27 to Jan. 1
Jingle Bell Doc with Doc Sevrinson at Orchestra Hall, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m.
and Dec. 20 at 2 p.m.

Macy?s Holiday Santa Land Auditorium Show, Nov. 21 to Dec. 3
Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears, Nov. 29, kick off at noon
Historic State Theater: Loyce Houlton?s Nutcracker Fantasy, Dec. 18 to Dec. 20, http://www.hennepintheatretrust.org
Target Holidazzle Parade, Fridays through Sundays, Nov. 28 to Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Walker Art Center: British Advertising Awards, Dec. 4 to Jan. 2, walkerart.org
?Some of the most treasured festivities of the season don?t cost a penny,? said Melvin Tennant, CEO and president of Meet Minneapolis. ?Downtown Minneapolis has numerous free events and activities, so it doesn?t have to cost a lot of money to start a new holiday tradition with your family and friends.?

Save Time & Money: Shop Downtown

For some shoppers, saving time is as important as saving money. When deciding where to shop for the holidays, the majority of respondents (56 percent) still base their decision on how much ground they can cover in the shortest amount of time. Another 44 percent rely on free parking; however, ambiance and experience cannot be overlooked. More than 42 percent of respondents choose a shopping destination where they can experience more than just shopping.

While most Americans are still being cautious about the economy and watchful of spending, Minnesotans are no different. Nearly half of the respondents (49 percent) plan on spending more than $ 500 this holiday season on celebrations and gift buying. In addition, almost half (48 percent) are spending about the same as they did in years past.

Also, the survey indicated that people often make shopping decisions based on parking.

?We?d like to negate the myth that free parking isn?t available downtown,? said Tennant. ?The City of Minneapolis spent significant dollars to re-design and implement a road and parking system that is conducive to moving in, around and out of the downtown area. There is an abundance of free parking, and even more-so around the holidays.?

Information about holiday-specific free or reduced rate parking locations can be found at dothetown.com.

Stay & Play

For some, holiday travel extends beyond town, as 39 percent of respondents cross state lines during the holidays, while 61 percent stay close to home. For those planning an outing to Minneapolis and want to make a night of it, Minneapolis offers an array of hotels to suit every taste, need, style and budget. When booking, inquire about the hot holiday rates.

Neighborhood Nooks & Dining Districts

While it is just one city, Minneapolis is a place of distinct districts and neighborhood personalities that make it the whole package. An eclectic array of restaurants has opened in Minneapolis in the last year. Il Gato will open in the former Figlio space in Uptown this week. Already open are Om Contemporary Indian Cuisine (Warehouse district), Northeast Social Club (Northeast), Bar La Grassa (in the former Babalu location in Northeast) and Black Sheep Pizza (North Loop).

?We believe downtown Minneapolis is unmatched when it comes to unique dining and shopping destinations and all the wonders the season has to offer,? said Tennant. ?We invite you to get out and enjoy the city.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Public Affairs Office, National Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Meredith Brucker, (800) 458-6223, ext. 198.

(BETHESDA, MARYLAND, February 2003) Doug Kingsriter is the new Chief Development Officer for the National Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF). The charity supports national cooperative research to find new cures for infants, children, teens and young adults with cancer. He was appointed to this position by NCCF President Paul T. Burke and the Board of Directors.

Kingsriter previously served as Executive Vice President for Business Development for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in Dallas, Texas, where he created strategic alliances with Fortune 100 companies that significantly increased revenues and public awareness of the organization’s mission. He was also instrumental in reducing MADD’s fundraising costs to exemplary standards.

At the University of Minnesota he was an All Big 10 football player, an All-American, an Academic All-American, and is a member of the University’s Hall of Fame. He later played for the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowls VIII and IX. Kingsriter has great understanding of his new constituency of childhood cancer patients and their families. His oldest son required three major surgeries before he was five years of age. “These were life-changing events,” Doug recalls. He left the corporate world for several years, and with his wife Debbie formed a children’s book publishing firm to create inspirational products for other families impacted by childhood disease. He says, “I have vivid memories of caring for a very ill child, and want to help other families facing the uncertainty of serious illness. To that end, I am committed to finding more and better cures for childhood cancer.”

Doug and Debbie are the parents of three children: Lauren, 24, Barrett, 22, and Blake, 12. He will be located at the new offices recently opened by the Foundation in Bethesda, Maryland, and will also spend a considerable amount of his time at the offices in Arcadia, California.

The National Childhood Cancer Foundation is the grantee and fundraising organization that supports the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a network of physicians and scientists at over 235 hospitals. These pediatric oncology experts conduct laboratory research and also care for nearly 90% of the infants, children, teens and young adults with cancer in North America.

For information on how to help cure children with cancer, contact NCCF at (800) 458-6223.
