ItsAboutMusic.com Signs Alt-Rock Singer-Songwriter Benjamin Winter

(PRWEB) June 3, 2005

“In a world of make-believe rock stars plopped in place by make-believe record companies who simply pretend they are doing the world a proper service, artists like Benjamin Winter stand alone in a brilliance so obvious that make-believers go blind and pretenders go deaf. Only those of us who are immune to the imitations can revel in music like this. Benjamin Winter is so intimate with the listener that, for a short time, they trade lives and souls with the listener all the better for the exchange. There’s an overabundant supply of music in the world and too much of it gets in the way of music like this.” – Dean Sciarra, ItsAboutMusic.com

Benjamin Winter, front man for the band Sisera Fell based out of San Diego, CA, has crossed to the platform of independent artist. Sisera Fell released three independent projects since 1998, the latest of which contained two songs (“Rise Up” and “What To Do”) that garnered light-medium rotation from three major radio stations in San Diego and San Francisco.

Winter grew up near San Francisco and in 1994 went to Cal Poly in San Luis Obisbo, CA on a football scholarship and completed his education with Art and Music degrees. “I would have never gotten into a good school on studies. I only got to go to college because I could catch a football,” he admits. “My band became the only career I cared to put time into after college and football was over.”

Benjamin was invited in September 2003 to join a tour through the USA and Europe as a solo performer as well as musician for “Isaac Improv.” This was his first tour without the band and rendered the decision to produce his first solo project. He was in Amersterdam, Holland throughout 2004 where he moved to be with his Dutch girlfriend, write and independently pre-produce his first solo effort titled “Amber Alley And After.”

“Behind my garage in San Diego where I would work at night, there was a run down alley where the sky always took on an amber color because of the San Diego light and the late night fog. I would take breaks back there and think too much. Those nights started a time period that became a year on the road of touring and living in Amsterdam. These songs mark the reflections that became “Amber Alley And After. But actually more significantly…after.”

Three Lions Roar: A Novel of World Cup 2006

(PRWEB) June 13, 2005

Three Lions Roar: A Novel of World Cup 2006 is about a boy’s dream of one day playing for England and winning the World Cup just like his hero Charlton had done in 1966. It is a speculative fiction in which in the end England will win the World Cup with our hero Josh Roark.

Whether England wins or loses in World Cup 2006 Germany, Three Lions Roar will have a chance to roar again and again in the upcoming World Cups with sequels. Main character Josh Roark of Three Lions Roar will eventually become the Harry Potter of the football world.

Here is an editorial review by USSF Soccer Coach for Three Lions Roar: “Three Lions Roar: A Novel of World Cup 2006″

Imagine a Sunday night championship match with the underdog U-12 boy’s team pulling away with a 2-0 victory. Or how about a Champions League final with the underdog team Liverpool, after being down 3-0, coming back to win it all in a shootout?

Whatever the circumstance, whoever the opponent, Three Lions Roar pays tribute to just that: The underdogs! We have all lived it, whether it was watching the World Cup final or just playing a pick up game. We have all felt it, the feeling of rising up to the occasion when all obstacles are in your way, and nobody believes it can be done… Achieving the impossible!

For all of you who get goose bumps every time you grab a beer and discuss your old glory days, this book is dedicated to you. Wonderfully constructed, my former football coach, Umut Ozturk, gives us play-by-play of a nation’s race towards glory and England’s hope of winning a World Cup.

“Three Lions Roar: A Novel of World Cup 2006″

will be available at http://www.Amazon.com, http://www.amazon.co.uk, and http://www.Barnesandnoble.com starting July 15, 2005.

About the Author

Umut Ozturk was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1977. He moved to the United States in 1990 at the age of twelve. He graduated from Biloxi High School in 1995 and received his B.A. in Speech Communications from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2000. The Adversity and Opportunity of a Rare Commodity in College Football?the African American Coach

Vancouver, Wash. (PRWEB) December 14, 2005 -

BookSurge announces the publication of Innocence in the Red Zone, by Roger M. Groves.

College and professional sports has increasingly become a ticket out of the inner city and poverty for African American athletes. Recruiters from the Big Ten and other college athletic departments discovered that talent and drive often thrived in the mean streets, and it translated into electrifying athletics on the basketball courts and football fields of the major universities.

Presently, African American players dominate the collegiate grid irons, but upward movement into coaching and other post-player positions have rarely materialized for these smart, quick, dedicated athletes.

Roger M. Groves drilled down into the records, the statistics, and the past in the Big Ten football programs to find out why such a disparity existed and continues to exist between African American and white players who go on to become head coaches and decision makers in America?s heartland of athletics and professional sports.

He illustrates this story of disparity by focusing on Bobby Williams, Michigan State University head coach and bowl winner one year and unemployed two years later. In a cross-examination using facts and interviews, he ably indicts the system that allows the disparity to continue year after year, decade after decade.

But the book is not just an indictment, it’s also an invitation. It provides multiple recommendations to university decision makers on how to hire and not fire African American coaches. Groves fervently and humbly asks that they remember what the venerable president of MSU said decades ago “In education only people are important” so when accepting student athletes with unique academic challenges, they compassionately provide coaches that care and connect with those players and send them out better off than when they came in.

About the Author

Roger M. Groves is an attorney who maintains a bicoastal bifurcation between his own law practice in Washington DC and life as a law professor of sports, tax, and business organizations at Lewis & Clark Law School, in Portland Oregon. He has been a tax judge and partner in a major law firm over the past quarter century. More importantly, he is resuscitated daily by his creator, his wife and two adorable, but nondeductible daughters.

Construction Begins on Slotland.com?s Malawi School Project

Juma, Malawi (PRWEB) December 22, 2005 -?

Ground has been broken at the school Slotland.com?s ?New Chance for a New Generation? project has given to an impoverished African village. Provided the rains don?t delay construction, the school will begin providing a better outlook for the children of Juma, Malawi early next year.

?Our players know what a big role luck plays in their lives,? said Hannah Morante of Slotland.com (http://www.Slotland.com). ?Those that live in areas where we can enjoy the luxury of online entertainment should remember just how lucky we are. We feel good about sharing our prosperity with those less fortunate, and everyone that plays at Slotland.com can share in that good feeling.?

The school foundation was recently dug out by a local football team in exchange for one football and set of twelve football kits in the colors of Manchester United. As the rainy season is starting and prices will rise, the local organizers hurried to buy all the needed building materials such as gravel, sand, cement, planks and iron sheets, as well as building tools with the initial funding provided by Slotland.com.

The impoverished village of Juma is near Blantyre City, the industrial capital of Malawi. The region is of little interest to both government and non-governmental organizations. Local people rely on growing maize and other vegetables, or occasion piecework if they can find it. Without this help from the western world, the future looked bleak for its children.

The ?New chance for a new generation? project obtained support from local traditional authorities ? both the village headman and the group village headman — who gave the project a vast piece of land for building a preschool and for growing enough maize and vegetables for the school kitchen.

?An important part of our project is the extension officer, a local secondary-school teacher,? explains Project Coordinator, Tereza Mirovicova. ?Thanks to his knowledge of the local environment and people, we?ve been able to identify and employ experienced and reliable builders.?

Thanks to the hard work of local workers and organizers, and the generosity of Slotland.com, there is new hope in the New Year for the children of a struggling African village.

England Wins World Cup 2006 in Germany

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) January 2, 2006

In a fictional account of the World Cup 2006 Turkish Author Umut Ozturk has masterfully created a one-of-a-kind novel that is currently transforming into fact. Three Lions Roar: A Novel of World Cup 2006 is quickly becoming one of the most fascinating football books of all time. This book not only chronicles the intriguing, unique, and sometimes frenzied dimensions of the World Cup, but it also smoothly intertwines a page-turning plot involving action, drama, and love.

Ozturk introduces us to team England and its fans, a nation craving another World Cup championship for forty years, where a father-son team (ignorant of their blood relation) takes the English soccer scene by storm. Next are the well-anticipated World Cup 2006 finals, a thrilling clash of the titans. England faces Germany in a rematch of the 1966 final starring Bobby Charlton and his English team. Never before has an author dared to write a novel predicting the outcome of an event of this magnitude, not to mention that Ozturk?s version of the World Cup 2006 is beginning to become World Cup 2006.

The novelty of this book easily makes it the greatest soccer/football book of all time. The writing draws you in with exciting action that makes lovable characters, sports nail-biting, and the often complicated world of football understandable. Ozturk skillfully takes England through the World Cup preliminaries that read almost like the news articles written about the actual matches. In the novel, England captures first place in their group, Group B. England was recently the first team called in the World Cup FIFA 2006 draw, called into Group B. This should mark the celebration of an untapped trend in books and sports.

Three Lions Roar: A Novel of World Cup 2006 was only published six months ago and in only a few months more it will be available in multiple languages. The World Cup is a huge international event and should naturally be accessible to the international community, whether Turkish, German, Japanese, or any other language.

Three Lions Roar: A Novel of World Cup 2006 was released in July of 2005. Within 10 days in the internet book stores, it has become the best seller amongst all ?World Cup? related books.

Voice Protection for Super Bowl Fans

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) January 26, 2006

Football games sometimes result in terrible injuries ? and they?re not always on the field. Injuries can take place inside the throats of screaming fans at the stadium, in sports bars, or even at home watching TV with friends. According to leading voice expert Renee Grant-Williams, sustained yelling can brutally tear up a fan?s vocal cords resulting in damage that may persist long after Super Bowl Sunday.

?Whenever anyone yells repeatedly, it puts severe friction and pressure on their vocal cords. A fan risks becoming hoarse, losing their voice or even developing nodes,? says Grant-Williams. ?Nodes are like callouses, they form on the vocal cords to protect them from strain. However, nodes get in the way and keep the vocal cords from fitting together cleanly, causing the voice to become hoarse and unpredictable. Over time, these nodes may require surgery.?

Grant-Williams offers suggestions for voice protection during the Super Bowl:

1) Dress appropriately. Layer clothing so the layers can be removed or added as needed. Fans attending the game should take a warm scarf to protect the throat.

2) Drink plenty of fluids. Limit beverages that dehydrate, such as alcohol and caffeinated drinks.

3) Eat smart. Eat a good balance of protein and carbohydrates. Limit the intake of salty foods like salted nuts and chips.

4) When expressing support for your team, breathe low and support the yelling by contracting your lower abdominal muscles. Do not scream from the throat.

?Just as in football, the best defense for the voice is a good offense,? says Grant-Williams. ?Don?t wait until the damage is done to take precautions. Even though it is normal to be enthusiastic during a sports event, think twice before yelling too much.?

Grant-Williams offers more tips in her book, ?Voice Power: Using Your Voice to Captivate, Persuade, and Command Attention? published by AMACOM Books, New York. This book is endorsed by Paul Harvey and was selected by ?Soundview Executive Book Summaries? as one of the best business books of 2002.

Renee Grant-Williams coaches business executives, sales professionals and celebrities including Faith Hill, the Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Travis and Huey Lewis. She presents communication programs to business organizations and has been quoted by Business Week, Cosmopolitan, AP, UPI, TV Guide, CareerBuilder, CNN, Southern Living, the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe and the San Francisco Chronicle. She has appeared on numerous broadcast outlets including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, Bravo, USA, MTV, GAC, NPR

Rugby Union Recovery Fund Raises $15,000 for Hurricane-Affected Clubs and Targets $30,000 for 2006

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) March 2, 2006

After Hurricane Katrina hit the southeast coast of the United States last fall, the US Rugby Football Foundation and USA Rugby South led an effort to create the Rugby Union Recovery Fund to aid rugby programs affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Today, the Fund announced it has delivered a check for over $ 15,000 to the USRFF. The contributions were collected through direct donations and proceeds through the sale of the Rugby Union Recovery Fund t-shirt to support redevelopment of rugby in the affected areas.

The Recovery Fund was supported by nearly every major US rugby sports brand that united to underwrite the cost of the fundraising efforts including the t-shirt printing.

?These clubs lost everything and we are just grateful we are able to support their efforts to bring rugby back to the affected areas,? said World Rugby Shop?s Bernard Frei, one of the rugby companies involved in the effort.

?There?s still a long way to go. The TV cameras are gone and the real significance of the disaster is starting to hit home as people try to move their lives forward again. The rugby community has come through in a big way, I am extremely proud to consider myself one of them.?

The Rugby Union Recovery Fund has sold over 900 of its t-shirts as fundraisers and hopes to sell enough in 2006 to reach its goal of $ 30,000.

?I can’t believe it but everyday I see orders for these tees,? says Frei. ?People really do care and it’s having an impact. We?re by no means finished with our efforts?these people still need our help and we and the team at USA Rugby and the Foundation are going to keep plugging away with this .?

In the upcoming months, the US Rugby Football Foundation will be allocating the money to clubs in need as players and families return to their communities and rugby play begins again. The Fund still hopes to receive more contributions to better serve these areas. The USRFF is currently working with the rugby officials in the affected areas to see how best to disperse the funds where they?ll provide the most benefit.

?We are extremely delighted and humbled by the results thus far, however, it could take years to rebuild these areas and bring back the game of rugby,? said Brian Vizard, executive director of USRFF. ?We just hope people realize that this effort is still moving forward and needs the rugby community?s support.?

Individuals can still buy a Rugby Union Recovery Fund t-shirt from which 100% of the proceeds will go into the recovery fund. These shirts are available online at http://www.RugbyUnionRecoveryFund.com.

Direct donations can be collected through the USRFF website at http://www.usrugbyfoundation.org. Once on the site, individuals can click on the ?Contribute Today? link and designate a contribution to the Rugby Relief Fund. Checks can also be sent to the USRFF. Checks should be made out to the USRFF, earmarked for the Rugby Relief Fund, and sent to:

USRFF

2131 Pan American Plaza

San Diego, CA 92101

Donations to the Hurricane Katrina Rugby Recovery Fund are tax deductible through the IRS as 501 (c) 3 charitable giving.
