Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections Treat the Underlying Cause of Knee Arthritis, Notes Cleveland-area Orthopedist Robert Zanotti, MD

Sheffield Village, OH (PRWEB) December 15, 2010 ?

According to a pilot study published in the December American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, platelet-rich plasma or PRP injections produce significant improvements in pain and function among patients with primary and secondary knee osteoarthritis.

?PRP injections have been popularized by pro athletes,? explains Robert Zanotti, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at the Center for Orthopedics in Sheffield Village, Ohio, just west of Cleveland.

?Tiger Woods got PRP injections in his elbow, and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward had them to treat a sprain in the medial collateral ligament, or MCL, in his right knee,? says Dr. Zanotti, who is fellowship-trained in sports medicine. ?Now, we are using PRP injections at the Center for Orthopedics to treat Baby Boomers? knee arthritis.

?PRP is a form of Regenerative Injection Therapy, an emerging treatment approach that helps stimulate the body?s ability to heal itself,? Dr. Zanotti explains. ?Blood platelets contain powerful healing proteins called growth factors. Conversely, cortisone injections treat arthritis symptoms by getting rid of inflammation in and around the affected joint. PRP aims to address the cause of arthritis; cortisone treats the effect.

?Inflammation is a part of the body?s natural healing response,? says Dr. Zanotti. A study from the Netherlands presented at the 2010 annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons suggests that PRP therapy is more effective than cortisone injections in treating degenerating tendon tissue.

?PRP helps start the body?s inflammation and tissue regeneration cascade,? Dr. Zanotti explains. ?In a PRP treatment, blood is drawn from the patient. The blood is then placed in a machine called a centrifuge, which spins it down to separate the platelets from other blood components such as red and white blood cells. This process, which takes just a few minutes, increases the concentration of platelets up to 1,000%. Then the concentrated growth factors are injected directly into the affected area to stimulate the patient?s healing.

Dr. Zanotti emphasizes the need to choose PRP patients carefully. ?PRP isn?t for someone who?s 80 with total osteoarthritis,? he explains. ?Ideal PRP patients are those with early arthritis who have good knee alignment, have probably had a knee scoped and cleaned out and have been told they have small arthritic areas or OCDs?osteochondral defects. If they?ve tried injections of cortisone or a lubricating gel such as Synvisc and they?re still having discomfort, PRP can be a good option.?

Case in point: Ruth Ann Kanzeg, a 54-year-old nurse from LaGrange, Ohio who developed stabbing pain in her knees. ?It became uncomfortable to walk,? she recalls. ?I had to give up running and even jogging on a treadmill. When I went to the orthopedist and saw my knee x-rays, I said, ?I can?t have arthritis! Fix this!??

Kanzeg tried cortisone and Synvisc injections. She also had arthroscopic surgery after she tore the lateral and medial meniscus in one of her knees.

In September, Kanzeg had a PRP injection in her left knee and it worked so well that she had her right knee treated in October. ?I feel wonderful!? she says.

Just a month later, she took a trip to the Grand Canyon, where she hiked and went on a mule ride. ?I was the only one in our group who got off the mule and didn?t have issues,? Kanzeg laughs. ?After a mule ride, people usually have problems with their back or knees?even people whose knees are normal. And I didn?t have any problems. I was thrilled! I got off the mule and did a little dance.

?I?m a very active person,? Kanzeg adds. ?I?m 54, but mentally I?m a lot younger. And I don?t want to stop doing the things I love to do. I don?t want my body to slow me down. We Baby Boomers are taking care of everybody?our parents, our children. Now we really need to take care of ourselves. And a big part of that is staying healthy.

?The PRP injections have done a really good job,? she says. ?I?m very excited to get back to my normal activities without pain.?

PRP injections may not be covered by insurance plans.

A “New” Sister Sports Talk Show Team, The Sport Mavericks Presents: In Their Own Words: All-American Girls Professional Baseball League – 11 Years of Baseball History but 62 Years of Friendship

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) March 15, 2005

“The women of the AAGPBL were to dress like ladies, and play baseball like a men. What a contradiction by today’s sport standards. What was the real motivation behind establishing an All Girls Professional Baseball League in 1943?

By 1943, over 5,000 Major and Minor Leaguers had been drafted into World War II, the the Midwest Ball Parks were empty and the loss of revenues was bleeding the team owners. Philip Wrigley, Gum Magnate and owner of the Chicago Cubs could see the decline personally and sought to do something about it. President Roosevelt also saw a solution to boost and maintain high morale of the country during war times. “If Rosie The Riveter” could replace the men off to war in the factories, by golly women can replace the men on the baseball field,” Roosevelt was heard saying.

Sixty three years later the period between 1943-1954 has become part of the richest history of baseball in America. Many today contribute this period as the most important in carving out a need to provide scholarship for women in college sports.

Sports Fans Looking for Pictures Now have a New Place to Shop

Dover, NH (PRWEB) February 7, 2006

If you?re a sports fan and enjoy covering your wall with photographs of your heroes, you may want to take a minute to visit ProSportsPictures.com (http://www.prosportspictures.com), a site launched late last year by New Hampshire sports fan Ian Logue. Logue claims he himself owns a fair amount of Sports Photographs, and started the site because he enjoyed getting them as gifts from others.

?I?ve always enjoyed getting these photographs as gifts when I was younger, and wanted to have the chance to give other fans a place to buy them,? says Logue. ?There are so many displaced fans around the world who have to go to the mall and see pictures of players who play for the teams who just happen to be in their market. You can?t buy Pittsburgh football pictures (http://www.prosportspictures.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers) in California, and if you can there?s probably not very many to choose from.?

The online store features 8×10 photographs from Photofile, Inc. for all 30 professional baseball teams, along with all 32 professional football teams. It also features panoramic stadium pictures from both sports from Everlasting Images.

?We tried to cover everything,? says Logue.

Most photos on the website are certainly well priced, starting as low as $ 1.99 for 8×10 photographs. Navigating the store is quite simple as the site contains little clutter, and there are some convenient features including the ability to see what your photo would look like in the event you decided you?d like to purchase it already framed. Fans also have the ability to sign up for an e-mail mailing list to get an e-mail when new photos are added for their team.

Logue says that there are already sites out there that carry these same photographs, but that, ?they don?t take it to the level that most fans are looking for.? He says that most sports fans want a large selection of pictures that are constantly updated, which the majority of competing sites don?t offer.

?There are so many sports fans out there who are simply fanatics,? says Logue. ?They live and die with their team, and they enjoy collecting these photographs and aren?t satisfied seeing a few pictures here and there. The majority of my customers purchase at least five or six photos, and I?ve even had some people purchase 20 or more photographs at a time. That more or less proves my point.?

Customer service is what Logue also believes will set him apart from most of his competitors, since he obviously shares a similar interest with his clientele. When customers complete their purchase for their photographs, they?ll also find that the site uses the BizRate satisfaction survey, which Logue hopes will help build buyer confidence in his site. The service was only recently implemented, but he?s hopeful that the site?s commitment to service helps him build loyal customers.

The site is also a safe and secure way to shop, using the popular PayPal Shopping Cart, and also recently added an affiliate program for webmasters with sports sites. The program is handled by ShareASale.com, a third party affiliate management service which handles many of the top e-commerce websites.

For now Logue is focused on giving his customers what they want, which appears to be plenty of pictures to choose from. There are over 2000 photos currently available for purchase on the site, with new ones being added everyday. This is apparently good news for sports fans. Hopefully these same people have plenty of empty wall space to fill.

“Lorena Ochoa And Hillary Clinton Two Tenacious Women Faced Insurmountable Odds this Past Week, and Have Showed Nothing But Character,” says Life Coach, Robert Wiliams, Special Guest On Sportsmavericks With Ida Muorie; Show to air Tuesday, April 22, 2008 At 8pm EST

Reunion, Fla. (PRWEB) April 20, 2008

Today Lorena and Hillary are No.1 in their respective fields, Ochoa clinches four win in a roll at Ginn Open in Reunion, Florida, and secures her place in the Women’s Golfer Hall of fame, and Hillary being the only women running in 77 years that is viable candidate for the position of President of the United States. “She could be the best Commander In Chief, we have ever had, ” according to General Wesley Clark, a noted Middle East expert. Both named as 2008 Sportsmavicks All-Star Winner in 2008.

“In 2007, Ochoa was at the top of her game until she came to the 2007 GINN OPEN, but Ochoa found herself 6 over the finbal 6 holes, missed a 10 foot boogey put on No. 18 that cost her in 2007. Lorena does not expect it to happen again. She has pushed all the noise out of her head and practically ignored her two Taiwan opponents, Yani Tse and Teresa Lu, by taking over the leader board yesterday in the third round,” says Bianca Strauss, fellow golfer.

“Obama has bested Hillary in small state one after another, but he has not been able to Constitutionally close the gap on Electorate Votes, so Pennsylvania may be the turn around that Hillary is looking at,” says Eleanor Starks, mother of Max Starks of the Pittsburgh Steelers, a strong Hillary Supporter. “If Lorena can do it and she was -9 under the first day, and she is now -16 under going into the home stretch, then Hillary should be able to do it. When I am trying to best my game I rely upon this follow saying.

“The man who is tenacious of purpose in a rightful cause is not shaken fro his firm resolve by the frenzy of her fellow citizens clamoring for what is wrong or by the tyrant’s threatenibng counternace.” Horace 65-8 B.C.

“People argue about Hillary’s ego, but it is not her ego, it is her commitment I think that drives her,” says Ida Muorie, host of the Sportsmavericks Show. “When we were looking for two famous athletes to picked for our Phoenix Award (Rise for the dust) and our Female Athlete of the Year, Hillary and Ochoa just sttod out as two people that under Commitment, Community and why it is important to win with purpose. We compare Ochoa’s drive to be the best, with Hillary’s ability to take the punches and get up swinging inspite of it all.

At the beginning of this tournament, Ochoa started three shot back from Tseng and was four back after a boogey on No.2. But the world’s No.1 player beginning with the Par -5 ninth took the lead for good with a near perfect approach shot on No.11. Hillary is hoping for a perfect approach in Pennsylvania and I think she will get it. Never say never when a women is committed to work, their world, soulmate, children, friends and purpose, concludes Ida Muorie.”

These two women have two things in common, they are 2008 sportsmavericks winners, and Robert Williams will give the analogy that when a woman is committed there is no reason for her to stop when her game is on. Career Fair for Military Veterans and Military Spouses Coming to Norfolk on September 25

Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) September 3, 2008

The military-to-civilian recruiting firm RecruitMilitary will present a free hiring event for job seekers who have military backgrounds in Norfolk on Thursday, September 25, 2008. This event, the RecruitMilitary Career Fair, will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Nauticus – Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center. RecruitMilitary urges all job seekers who have military backgrounds to attend — veterans who already have civilian work experience, men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses.

The event will be the 78th of 104 RecruitMilitary Career Fairs scheduled for 2008. RecruitMilitary will produce two additional events on the same day — at Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers; and at Prudential Center, home of the New Jersey Devils, in Newark, NJ.

In Norfolk, an all-star team of veteran-friendly organizations will conduct one-on-one interviews with the job seekers — organizations that will include corporate employers, law-enforcement agencies and other government employers, educational institutions, franchisors, veterans service agencies, and veterans associations. Already in the line-up are Blackwater USA, Carolina Handling, DeVry University, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), First Command Financial Planning, Fluor Government Group, GE Energy Services, L-3 GSI, Liberty Tax Service, MasTec, Military Sealift Command, the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network, National Oilwell Varco, Oldcastle Architectural Products Group, Precision Tune Auto Care, Steris Corporation, Tidewater Tech, the United States Border Patrol, the Veterans Benefits Administration, Walgreens, Washington Group International, and Westinghouse Anniston.

RecruitMilitary will produce the career fair in cooperation with The American Legion; HireVetsFirst, a unit of the United States Department of Labor; and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN).

More than 500 organizations attended 45 RecruitMilitary Career Fairs in 2007. At those events, an average of 30-plus organizations interviewed an average of over 325 job seekers. RecruitMilitary Career Fairs conducted in 2006 and 2007 generated television coverage by CNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN; radio coverage by ESPN and numerous regional stations; and articles in metropolitan and local newspapers.

The American Legion is an association of veterans who served during times of war. The Legion has 2.7 million members in nearly 15,000 posts throughout the world. The National Commander of The American Legion is Dave Rehbein, an Army veteran, of Ames, Iowa. The Commander of the Department of Virginia is Leslie Clevinger. Congress chartered The American Legion in 1919. HireVetsFirst was created by Congress in 2002 to develop awareness among employers of the outstanding attributes of men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life. The Military Spouse Corporate Career Network was founded in 2004 to provide career opportunities and job portability for military spouses. The organization is made up of military spouses, caregivers to war wounded, and retired military personnel.

RecruitMilitary, based in Cincinnati, connects employers with job seekers who have military backgrounds. All of the company’s account executives and retained search consultants are either veterans or active or former reservists. The President of RecruitMilitary is Drew Myers, formerly a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. The company was founded in 1998. In August 2008, RecruitMilitary acquired Landmark Destiny Group (LDG), a military-to-civilian recruiting firm based in Norfolk.

In addition to participation in career fairs, RecruitMilitary offers subscriptions to two databases of self-registered job seekers who have military backgrounds. The database at http://www.recruitmilitary.com currently numbers more than 229,000, and the database at http://www.destinygroup.com numbers over 300,000.

RecruitMilitary also offers retained hiring services as well as advertising space in online and print media. The company obtained Search & Employ, a bimonthly print magazine, in the LDG acquisition. In October, RecruitMilitary will mail more than 32,000 copies of the magazine to over 230 military bases throughout the world for distribution to transitioning personnel. Employers, educational institutions, and franchisors advertise in Search & Employ.
