Seth Godin and Jay Levinson Keynote at marcus evans? BrandSLAM & Packaging and Design Summits

Palm Beach Gardens, FL (PRWEB) May 20, 2006

Leaders in the field of marketing and brand management will gather for a unique summit June 11-13 to discuss best practices and practical strategies and share their experiences. The brand is the company’s most valuable asset. The company name, symbols, slogans and their underlying associations are a primary source of competitive advantage and future earnings. Today, building strong brands is not getting any easier with the proliferation of brands available and the increasingly fragmented nature of today?s marketplace. Indeed, building and managing brand equity over the long term, leveraging consumer insights, brand strategies that build customer loyalty, eBranding and experiential branding are just some of the critical issues facing the industry.

Similarly, every consumer product or service is packaged in some way. The challenge is, consumers are extremely demanding and mostly take the packaging for granted. They expect it to maintain freshness, prevent breakage, prevent injury, and protect the environment; all while remaining functional. The Packaging and Design executive is therefore forced to balance the desires of the customer and viability of the package while their companies demand decreased time-to-market, newer, yet less-costly materials, and stronger brand awareness. Consequently, marcus evans is pleased to present its BrandSLAM & Packaging and Design Summits for 2006.

The BrandSLAM & Packaging and Design Summits will be held at the PGA National Resort and Spa, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida from June 11-13, 2006 and will feature keynote presentations from Seth Godin, renowned Bestselling Author and Entrepreneur and Jay Levinson, Author of the Guerilla Marketing Series, and keynote Brad Baker, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Monster Worldwide Inc.

Other distinguished presenters at the BrandSLAM Summit include; Matt Wisk, Corporate EVP and Chief Marketing Officer at United Online Inc.; Stephen Berkov, Director, Marketing with Audi of America Inc., Sherri Prosser, Corporate Sponsorship Executive of Cingular Wireless; Greg Ott, VP, Marketing from Ask Jeeves Inc.; Chris Kircher, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, President, ConAgra Foods Foundation at ConAgra Foods; James Daniels, VP, Marketing Trojan with Church and Dwight Co. Inc.; Jason Jhonson, VP, Brand Management of AG, Interactive, American Greetings Corporation; Joey Bergstein, SVP, Global Marketing Smirnoff RTDs for Diageo North America; Rod Nenner, VP, Marketing and National Brand Sponsorship with Washington Redskins; Tim Collins, SVP, Experience Marketing of Wells Fargo and Company; John Schaufelberger, VP, Product Marketing from Burger King Corporation; Peter Krainik, Chief Marketing Officer with QD Technology and Joanne Smith, VP, Marketing at Delta Airlines Inc.

The Packaging and Design stream also promises an exciting line-up of speakers. Dr Paul Singh, Professor, School of Packaging at Michigan State University and Harold Bennett, VP Technical Packaging from Estee Lauder Companies will give timely keynote presentations while other featured speakers include Bruce Claxton, Senior Director, Design Integration of Motorola, Inc.; John Gleason, Associate Director-Business Partnerships for Proctor & Gamble; Sandy Cobin, Director of Communication Services at The Hain Celestial Group; Richard Saffron Jr., Director of Global Graphics and Package Design from Just Born, Inc.; Rebecca Fong, Group Manager with The Clorox Company; Sharon Reiter Lindberg, Design Manager of Unilever Visual Branding Center; Rebecca Walter, Director, Innovation Design and Testing for Kimberly Clark Corporation; Anne Lawrence-Cherry, Graphic and Package Design Studio Manager, Mass Channel Visual Marketing at Hallmark Cards, Inc.; Kevin Rabinovitch, Packaging and Process Development Director of Masterfoods USA; Scott Ballantine, Project Packaging Manager with Microsoft Corporation; Steven Richardson, Packaging Engineer of America Online-Package Development; Glenn White, Director, KFC Packaging Engineering from KFC, Yum! Brands; Matthew Vincent Voigt, Associate Manager, Packaging for Taco Bell, Yum! Brands and Michael Bryant, Senior Research Engineer at Welch Foods, Inc.

Fork Union Military Academy Sports Hall of Fame to Induct Five Athletes

Fork Union, VA (PRWEB) June 11, 2006

Fork Union Military Academy will induct five new members into its Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet dinner to be held on Thursday evening, June 15, 2006. This year?s class of inductees includes an international track champion, two former NFL football players, an all-around athlete respected for his leadership on and off the field, and one of the Academy?s longtime coaches who was an All-State athlete during his playing days at FUMA and in college. These honorees will join the twenty-five members previously inducted into the school?s Sports Hall of Fame. This year?s class of inductees are:

Ibrahim M. Aden, FUMA Class of 1992 ? In his senior year at FUMA, this Somalia-born track athlete was the world?s fastest high school miler, sweeping all major U. S. races with a time of 4:05. He excelled in the 1500-meters in college, winning multiple championships in that event. He went on to compete extensively in international events and represented Somalia in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, carrying his national flag during the opening ceremonies in Sydney.

William A. Blair, FUMA Class of 1949 ? Coach Bill Blair served as a multi-sport coach and Athletic Director at Fork Union Military Academy for more than thirty-five years. He was the architect of FUMA?s current prep athletic program, providing interscholastic competition for the Academy?s high school undergraduates, and he initiated the Academy?s entrance into the Virginia Preparatory League. In his own playing days, Blair was Co-Captain of the Academy?s football and baseball teams and went on to compete at Hamden-Sydney College where we was an All-State player in both sports.

Charles J. Bossolina, FUMA Class of 1949 ? Being honored posthumously, Charlie Bossolina is fondly remembered as an athlete whose leadership was respected both on and off the athletic field. Rated as one of the best high school centers in the state, Bossolina was known as FUMA?s ?coach on the field,? as he helped lead the team to success for four years. He was Captain of the 1949 team and was named All-State his senior year. He received a scholarship to attend Furman University where he continued to play as a lineman and earned Honorable Mention for the All-State team. While his playing days ended at the college level and he went on to a life in business as a restaurant owner, teammates still remember Charles Bossolina as one of the uniquely inspiring figures in the Academy?s sports history.

Erik R. Christensen, FUMA Class of 1951 ? Nicknamed ?The Ox? by his teammates because of his terrific strength, Erik Christensen competed in football, basketball, and track in his years at the Academy. He was Co-Captain of the football team in 1950 with FUMA Sports Hall of Fame member Herman Clark. Christensen lead the defense on that undefeated team, allowing opposing teams only 22 points in the entire season, including five shutouts. Christenson was All-State for both of his years at FUMA and went on to be a four-year starter at the University of Richmond. Christensen was the only college player in Virginia named to the All-State team for two different positions, tackle and end. He played in the 1956 College All Star Game and was drafted to play for the Washington Redskins, where he played alongside another FUMA alumnus, Sports Hall of Fame member Steve Meilinger. Christensen also played professionally for the Calgary Stampeders before moving on to a ten year active duty career in the Army, having earned his commission through the ROTC program at the University of Richmond.

Will Furrer, Class of 1987 ? Will Furrer came to the Academy for a postgraduate year from Pullman High School in Washington, where he won all-league honors his senior year at quarterback. At FUMA, he alternated at quarterback with two other players, but he caught the eye of Virginia Tech coaches during the Academy?s annual game against their junior varsity team, completing 9 of 16 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown during his time on the field. Furrer went on to become one of the top Virginia Tech quarterbacks in history. He holds several individual records at Virginia Tech and – with 5,915 total yards and 43 touchdowns during his college career – Furrer remains one of the most productive quarterbacks in school history. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1992 and played for seven years in the NFL as a quarterback, including time with the Denver Broncos, Houston Oilers, and St. Louis Rams.

U.S. Olympic Hopefuls Make Time to be Green, Play Video Games, Design Clothing Lines and Volunteer as XXIX Beijing Olympic Games Approach

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 30, 2008

Today marks the official 100-day countdown to the Beijing Olympic Games. Over the next three months the eyes of the world will be on America’s best athletes as they prepare to represent Team USA on the world stage. Many of these athletes have trained their entire lives in the hopes of competing for the United States at the Olympic Games. But despite long days of training, hectic international travel schedules and intense competition pressure many of these Olympians and Olympic hopefuls have managed to lead incredibly normal, interesting lives.

Aaron Piersol (Austin, Texas), a three-time Olympic gold medalist in Athens, is dedicated to protecting the water he loves so much. A diehard surfer from Oceanside, Calif., Aaron has teamed up with Oceana – an environmental advocacy group that protects the world’s oceans. He has even started his own non-profit – Race for the Oceans – and fans can support it by sponsoring Aaron for every mile he swims during his Olympic training. He’s also in the process of building his own “green” vacation house in Costa Rica.

Reese Hoffa (Athens, Ga.), a 285-pound shot-putter is not your “typical” athlete. For starters, he has no gall bladder. But the thing that truly makes him unique is the challenges he has overcome. He was given up for adoption at age three, but later, as an adult, he embarked upon an emotional quest and was reconnected with his birth mother. He carries his fierce competitive spirit into playing video games – his favorite way to relax after a meet.

Breaux Greer (Scottsdale, Ariz.) is a javelin thrower you won’t forget. The spike-haired, barrel-chested Greer has an impressive collection of tattoos – and he wears only black when he competes. A former lead singer of a hard rock band, Greer hails from a tough neighborhood in Monroe, La.. His edgy personality is occasionally controversial but always entertaining.

Jeremy Wariner (Arlington, Texas) is a two-time gold medal winner in the 400m sprint – who picked up running as a sophomore year in high school. Besides his blazing speed, Wariner is best known for two things: his obsession with video games (he plays between one to three hours every day); and his fashion sense on the track – he always races wearing diamond earrings and sunglasses (even at night).

Shawn Johnson (Des Moines, Iowa), the reigning all-around champion at the 2007 FIG World Championships who spends over 10 hours each day in training, loves to steal away to bask in the fresh air and explore the outdoors. She spends what little free time she has mountain biking, hiking, and rock climbing. She is also an animal lover and volunteers at the Animal Rescue League.

Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif.), will compete in BMX Racing as the sport makes its Olympic Games debut this summer in Beijing. He is one of the favorites to win gold, even though he is the smallest competitor by six inches and 50 pounds. He has dreams of performing on Broadway, and loves to choreograph dance routines.

Allyson Felix (Los Angeles, CA), the 200-meter silver medalist in Athens and 2007 world champion, doesn’t just look good sprinting across the finish line – this fashionista looks good every time she steps out of the house. When she’s not sporting her track shoes, she is always looking for a chance to wear her red Christian Louboutins. But don’t let her obsession with shoes fool you, Felix is firmly grounded by her faith in God, and her strong family relationships.

Sanya Richards (Austin, TX), deemed, “The World’s Fastest Woman,” has found precious medals both on and off the field. She was engaged to New York Giants cornerback (and Super Bowl champion) Aaron Ross in December 2007. The proposal was an unexpected surprise in the middle of a New York Giants-Washington Redskins Sunday Night Football game. An NBC camera, filling for its Olympics coverage, caught Ross asking Richards to marry him. She, of course, offered a resounding, “Yes.” The couple has yet to announce a wedding date but revealed that the ceremony would take place in her hometown of Austin, TX. Between training and wedding planning, Richards also finds the time to volunteer for the American Behcet’s Disease Association.

Dwight Phillips (Snellville, GA), a long jumper, recovered from two badly broken legs at the age of 14 to go on to win a gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In his spare time, he experiments with photography and has stepped into a completely new role as manager of an emerging hip-hop band.

Bryan Clay (Glendora, CA), was once a rebellious teenager, but his success in sports and acceptance of the Christian faith has led him to an incomparable work ethic, commitment to excellence and unwavering integrity. He has established the Bryan Clay Foundation which provides student-athletes with academic and athletic scholarships, and is providing high school physical education departments with equipment and improved facilities.

The Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games in Beijing will be held on 8.8.08.

Department of Health Unveils New DC Quit Line Media Campaign Featuring NFL Hall of Famer Darrell Green

Washington, DC (PRWEB) August 12, 2008

Today the DC Tobacco Free Families Campaign (DCTFF) unveiled its new quit line media campaign starring former Washington Redskin and NFL Hall of Famer Darrell Green. The new campaign includes television, radio, metro and print ads that also feature DC’s own go-go band, Mambo Sauce; Nakia Sanford of the Washington Mystics; Caron Butler of the Washington Wizards; and WPGC radio personality, Justine Love. DCTFF is committed to ensuring that all DC residents who smoke have access to the latest evidence-based smoking cessation treatments to ensure long-term success at remaining tobacco free.

The program offers DC residents access to free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and counseling through 1-800-Quit-Now services and community-based programs.

The two PSAs feature Darrell Green educating residents about the 250 deadly poisons contained in tobacco smoke and encouraging smokers to call the quit line to receive free counseling and NRT to improve their chances of quitting for good. Some of the deadly poisons highlighted in the PSA are ammonia, arsenic, cyanide, and carbon monoxide, all of which are found in tobacco smoke.

In addition to the PSAs, once a month Green will return calls from actual 1-800-Quit-Now callers to encourage and support them on their quest to become smoke free. Green and his family have been personally affected by the tragedy of tobacco use when he lost his father-in-law to lung cancer due to smoking.

“My family suffered when my father-in-law died from lung cancer due to smoking,” said Darrell Green. “If you are smoking at home or in the car around your family, your loved ones are breathing the same poisons as you. I want to do what I can so my families’ tragedy doesn’t become yours too.”

DC has some of the highest rates of tobacco-related cancers and heart disease in the United States. More than 700 DC residents die each year from tobacco use; it continues to be the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the District of Columbia and the nation. The goal of the campaign is to reduce and ultimately eliminate tobacco use in DC through education, free tobacco cessation services and youth led tobacco prevention programs. Funding has been provided by a generous grant from the DC government to offer these free programs and services, including free nicotine patches and lozenges to DC residents.

“Tobacco use is the nation’s leading cause of preventable death, and it does not have to be; we can change this,” said Dr. Pierre N.D. Vigilance, Director of the DC Department of Health. “In order to do that, we have to be willing to change ourselves. The DC Department of Health is happy to join our partners here in the District along with our colleagues in public health practices across the country as we unite to help smokers quit. It takes a great deal of determination, will power as it may be more than one or two attempts before a smoker finally quits. This collaborative program provides smokers with some of the tools they will need to kick the habit.”

Recently, Green was among six players inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 2, 2008. The cornerback played his entire 20 year career with the Redskins through 2002, earning seven Pro Bowl selections. The 48-year-old had 54 career interceptions, returning for six touchdowns. He holds the NFL record with 19 straight years with an interception.

According to Justine Love, WPGC radio personality who recently quit by calling 1- 800-Quit-Now, “I never thought I could actually quit–I’ve tried four times before and it just seemed too hard. But getting help made all the difference; and it made my daughter very happy. I do want to encourage smokers to call the quit line–it was one of the best decisions I have made.”

Current spokespersons for the DCTFF campaign also include Washington Wizards guard, Caron Butler; Nakia Sanford, Washington Mystics Center; DC’s own Mambo Sauce and Justine Love of WPGC 95.5 FM

Featured as the Malibu ?My Life My Boat? January honoree, Attila Tassi, is an amazing boat owner. But his remarkable story has less to do with his boat and more to do with his compassion and his organization Horton?s Heroes. Tassi created this non-profit to support injured service personnel undergoing therapy at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital. His goal is to bring some sense of normalcy to their lives and to show these men and women that people do care. Horton?s Heroes does this by giving wounded soldiers the opportunity to experience fun activities they otherwise might not have the ability to enjoy. Wakeboarding behind Tassi?s Hero Edition Malibu Wakesetter VLX, sky diving, visiting professional sporting events, going to dinner or seeing a movie are just some of the activities Horton?s Heroes is making possible for military men and women who sacrifice so much for our country.

Malibu?s My Life My Boat Movement

Horton’s Heroes was launched in 2004 by a private citizen, Tassi, looking to make a difference in the lives of Marines, Soldiers, Navy Personnel and Airmen who have served and been wounded in combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Incorporated on October 11, 2007, Horton’s Heroes mission is to support injured service personnel undergoing therapy at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital; to try to bring some sense of normalcy to their lives; to show these men and women that people do care.

Horton?s Heroes was named for Tim Horton and represents all of the injured service men and women like him. Formerly a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corp, Tim?s left leg was amputated as a result of being injured during his tour of duty in Iraq. Tim was a resident of Walter Reed for some time under going surgeries and working through recovery. He met Attila at this baseball game and now according to Tim, ?I consider him [Attila] one of my best friends.?

Horton?s response to questions about how Horton?s Heroes and Attila helped him was simple, ?Attila helped me stop worrying and he made life feel normal again.? Tim continued, ?He got me out doing the things again.?

Horton’s Heroes provides a wide range of support. Currently, they provide tickets to sporting events such as the Washington Redskins and Capitals games. They also provide dinners as well as movie and concert tickets. They have funded trips to Las Vegas and skydiving trips to Ocean City, Maryland. And now they are taking service personnel wakeboarding and tubing on the Potomac River behind their 2009 Heroes Edition Wakesetter VLX.

Former United States Army Sergeant E5 Javier Torres met Tassi in 2006 at Walter Reed after being injured in Afghanistan a year earlier. Torres described Attila this way; “He’s like the Disneyland for vets. He makes our dreams come true!”

Unfortunately, many Marines and Soldiers return from combat severely wounded. Providing these services helps them heal mentally and physically. As Horton?s Heroes obtains more funding and support, Tassi plans to expand the support he provides to include other services such as legal and financial counseling.

Former United States Army Sgt First Class, Jason Burr, summed-up the power of Horton?s Heroes with this statement, “Giving any wounded soldier the opportunity to get outdoors is rehabilitative in and of itself. We get to experience real things again. Even though we?re wounded we’re not dead. With the help of organizations like Horton’s Heroes and people like Attila, it shows us there’s life on the other side of the challenges we face.”

About Horton?s Heroes: Horton?s Heroes mission is to support injured service personnel undergoing therapy at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital; to try to bring some sense of normalcy to their lives; to show these men and women that people do care. Bigger and Better: IEG’s 28th Annual Sponsorship Conference Introduces New Focus, Format and Location

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) December 10, 2010

As it has for the past 27 years, IEG’s sponsorship conference–the world’s oldest and largest such event–will again bring together more than 1,000 marketers focused on building mutually beneficial partnerships with sports properties, entertainment concerns, local to global events and nonprofit organizations.

But business as usual, it’s not. The event’s concentration in 2011 will be on the world’s leading companies and brands and the ability of partnerships to bring them to the top and keep them there. That emphasis is reflected in the roster of keynoter speakers, panelists and discussion leaders.

IEG’s 2011 speakers are world class. Many are CMOs and CEOs. All are thought-leaders. And without exception, every one of them is successfully using partnerships as engagement platforms, growing their businesses in these volatile, complex times.

In a brand new format for the conference, most senior-level speakers will share their success stories–critical to the P&L of anyone buying, selling or managing sponsorship–in keynote addresses, immediately followed by a panel discussion that harvests insights and takeaways and applies them across markets and categories.

The conference–Return on Engagement: Sponsorship’s Impact on Business–also has a new venue this year, the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, in the heart of the city’s Michigan Avenue corridor. The conference begins on Sunday, March 13 and ends Wednesday, March 16.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Gail Torreano, Senior Vice President, Business Unit & Employee Communications and Sponsorships, AT&T

Mark Waller, Chief Marketing Officer, NFL

As sponsorships go, it would be hard to find a better fit than Gatorade and the NFL. The two CMOs will each share their perspective on the partnership, its challenges and working together to build each other’s business.

Peter Foss, President, Olympic Sponsorship and Corporate Sales, GE

Partnerships are no longer strictly an aspect of marketing. Instead, they are used to move the entire enterprise forward. In GE’s case, it was able to link incremental sales of $ 700 million to its Olympic sponsorship, in addition to generating awareness in untapped international markets, offering a compelling sales incentive program and entertaining top customers.

John Kennedy, Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Communications, IBM

IBM goes beyond presence and hospitality and involves customers and prospects in its major sponsorship platforms such as the NFL, Broadway’s Tony Awards and the U.S. Opens of golf and tennis.

Eric Salama, CEO, Kantar

Salama–head of one of the world’s largest consumer insight and market research networks, with most of the Fortune and FTSE 100 as clients–will share how next gen research can be deployed to optimize and substantiate partnerships.

Martine Reardon, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Macy’s

Through its many relationships, especially its deep-rooted ties with the American Heart Assn., Reading Is Fundamental and numerous other causes, Macy’s inspires its employees and customers and changes the dynamic from transaction to admiration.

Christa Carone, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Xerox

Xerox is leading the way in transforming B2B-focused sponsorships and partnerships from simple platforms for entertaining customers and prospects into one-of-a-kind opportunities to build its brand and demonstrate who it is and what it does.
