Hall of Famers Boggs and Sandberg Join 25+ Red Sox at TRISTAR Collectors Show Spectacular

National Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg will be two of the many sports superstars, including Super Bowl XXXIX MVP Deion Branch, appearing at the TRISTAR Collectors Show, June 3-5, 2205, at the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough.

Fourteen members of the 2004 Boston Red Sox championship team, including manager Terry Francona, will make special appearance at the show. Joining Francona will be Red Sox World Series champs Keith Foulke, Orlando Cabrera, Trot Nixon, Kevin Youkilis, Tim Wakefield, Mike Timlin, David McCarty and Mark Malaska. Five Red Sox coaches are also scheduled to appear at the show, including Ron Jackson, Lynn Jones, Brad Mills, Dale Sveum and Dave Wallace. Current Red Sox star outfielder Jay Payton will also attend the event.

Sandberg and Boggs will be joined by fellow Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton, along with all-time Hit King Pete Rose.

TRISTAR will turn back the clock as Red Sox Legends of the past will also appear at the show. Red Sox legends appearing include Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd, Jeff Reardon, Marty Barrett, Bruce Hurst, Bob Stanley, Jim Lonborg, Bill Monbouquette, George Scott and Frank Malzone. Joining the group of Red Sox greats will be Red Sox minor league prospects Kelly Shoppach, Lenny DiNardo and Abe Alvarez.

Joining Branch in the autograph pavilion will be legendary Chicago Bears running back Gale Sayers and New England Patriots First round draft pick Logan Mankins.

Premier dealers of sports cards and memorabilia from more than 20 states will be on hand buying, selling and trading an array of collectibles. Thousands of free autographs will be signed during the weekend. For sports card connoisseurs, Beckett Media will be on hand for card grading, giving card collectors the opportunity to find out what their cards are really worth. There will truly be something for every member of the family at this event.

The southern wordsmith, widely known as the inspiration behind much of the current smooth-talking southern rap, demonstrates his down-home crunk rhymes and dynamic delivery on album cuts such as “Flickin,” “The Classic” and “Dirty Dirty.” The CD also features guest appearances by hip-hop talents Bone Crusher and the Ying Yang Twins.

Skinny Pimp garnered his southern fame by independently releasing eight albums totaling over 300,000 units in sales. He started his own record label called Gimisurn Productions. In 2002, he released an album titled “Still Pimpin and Hustlin” under the label Rap Hustlaz; it was on that album that Skinny Pimp collaborated with Cash Money Millionaire Lil Wayne on the song “Do What You Do.”

Growing up, Skinny Pimp was inspired by musical greats such as Bobby Womack, Willie Hutch and Marvin Gaye. He began writing rhymes and rapping in the style of Hot Boyz and P-Diddy. In 1996, he began his hip-hop career by writing rhymes for fellow Memphis rapsters Three 6 Mafia. When creative differences created turmoil in that group and various members were departing, Skinny Pimp also departed, and began his solo rap career, quickly creating a loud buzz, becoming a local underground favorite and upholding that long-held Memphis musical banner.

This Saturday evening, women’s pro football will kick off in Indianapolis. Yes, WOMEN’S pro football. Unlike the Indianapolis Colts, the Indianapolis Saberkatz play in a high school stadium. But like the Colts, they face an adversary from The City of Steel. Their opener will be against the Pittsburgh Passion.

The Saberkatz have been in training throughout the winter in preparation for this season. Led by veteran coach K.C. Carter, the squad competes in the 36-team National Women’s Football Association. This Saturday’s opener will be the first regular-season game in franchise history. Says Coach Carter, “I have won championships at all levels as a player and as a coach. I look forward to competing against my new division rivals.”

The Saberkatz field over forty players, most of whom are working women and mothers. Players range in age from the early twenties to mid-forties. Each player receives modest compensation, but not enough to make pro football a full-time pursuit. The roster includes graduates of Purdue, Indiana, Tennessee, and other large universities.

The Saberkatz’ opponent, the Pittsburgh Passion, completed the 2004 season with a 6-2 record. Head coach Ed Jenkins anticipates a challenging game. “We know the Saberkatz have exceptional talent and are a well coached team which means that we’ll need to be at the top of our game if we want to leave there with a win.”

General admission tickets run $ 10, about the price of a parking spot for a Colts game. For children under 12 who are accompanied by adults, tickets are free. With these policies, team owners anticipate a spirited crowd for the opener.
