Alabama Attorney Cautions Against Game Day Drinking and Driving

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) August 30, 2011

With the 2011 college football season starting this weekend in Alabama, Birmingham personal injury attorney Keith T. Belt says it?s a good time to remind fans of the dangers of drinking and driving.

?Studies show that the drinking and driving that surrounds football games and other sporting events poses a very serious public safety threat,? Belt says. ?If fans plan to drink alcohol while cheering on their team, whether it?s a tailgate event, bar or party, they need to pass their keys to someone else or else face very serious criminal and civil consequences.

?Additionally, those who serve alcohol to intoxicated fans, knowing the fan will be getting behind the wheel of a car, need to know that they can face legal consequences as well,? says Belt of Belt Law Firm, P.C., whose Birmingham personal injury lawyers represents drunk driving accident victims and their families throughout Alabama.

Several Alabama college football teams will play their first home games of the season this Saturday, including Alabama (vs. Kent State in Tuscaloosa), Auburn (vs. Utah State) and Samford (vs. Georgia Southern in Birmingham).

These games could make the state?s roads dangerous, Belt says.

He points out that a 2009 University of Colorado study, ?College Football Games and Crime,? found that college football home games were associated with a 13 percent increase in DUI arrests in areas surrounding the stadiums.

More recently, the University of Minnesota conducted a study that involved breathalyzer exams of 362 adults after 13 baseball games and three football games.

In a report issued earlier this year, the study found that eight percent of the fans recorded blood-alcohol content (BAC) levels above the legal limit of .08 percent, while fans under the age of 35 were nine times more likely to be legally drunk after the game than others.

?These studies are very alarming,? Belt says. ?Sports fans need to know that, if they drink and drive and cause an accident that harms others, they will be held accountable. They can face criminal charges, and they can be sued by their victims.

?At our law firm, we are passionate about seeking justice for car accident victims and their families and securing the compensation they deserve for their losses, including their medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. If the accident involves a drunk driver, punitive damages may likely be sought as well.?

Belt points out that, under Alabama?s Dram Shop laws, any bar, restaurant, liquor store, convenience store or other establishment that sells alcohol to a visibly intoxicated driver can be held liable for any accidents, injuries or deaths the driver causes. This is commonly known as ?alcohol server liability,? he says.

?If you plan to drink alcohol while cheering your team on, then please, designate a sober driver, call a taxi, take a bus or call a friend or family member to get you home safely,? Belt says. ?If you don?t, then you endanger everyone on the road, including yourself.?

MyPointPool.com Offer Users Chance to Compete Against Former NFL Players for Super Bowl Trip

Doylestown, PA (PRWEB) September 9, 2008

MyPointPool.com is pleased to announce the opening of a series of nine separate Point Pools that will allow participants to compete directly against retired NFL players such as Dorsey Levens, Harry Colon, Ricardo McDonald, Kenyon Rasheed, Oscar McBride and Chris Calloway. Participants will be competing for prizes that include Super Bowl and training camp VIP packages for the 2009 NFL season. Each of these pools will launch for Week 2 of the NFL season.

The Point Pool at MyPointPool.com is a patent-pending football pool that focuses each participant’s attention on picking the winners of just two games per week, keeping time required to play at a manageable level. The game starts with each player having 50 points and a random schedule of two NFL games per week. Each player’s entire schedule is available from the start and each player is guaranteed of being assigned every NFL team at least once throughout the season and. Each week, the players must pick a winner in each of their games and decide how many points to risk on each pick. The game requires long-term planning, patience and strategy and runs the entire NFL season, including the playoffs.

Each of MyPointPool’s retired NFL players will also provide content and weekly “Beat The Experts” game picks for the GridIronBlogs.com blog network. Gridironblogs.com is the network of blogs developed by MyPointPool to allow users to extend the fun, social nature of the Point Pool itself.

The largest pool is called the “Golf and the Big Game” pool. In this pool, users can match wits and strategy against the former NFL players as they compete for the Grand Prize: a package trip that includes two tickets to the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami, plus a spot in the NFL Charities Golf Tournament (played the day before), all tournament-related events and $ 800 spending money. Other prizes available include dozens of tickets to regular season games to be chosen by the winners during the 2009 season.

The other eight pools are what MyPointPool president Scott Dow calls “hybrid pools,” each of which is tied to one of the eight league divisions. Each pool will award a First Place prize of two game tickets for any two regular season games that the winner chooses during the 2009 season.

“The Division pools are a variation on our normal Point Pool structure,” says Scott Dow, president of MyPointPool Inc. “Each player still gets his or her randomly assigned schedule of two games per week. The difference is that, in addition to each player’s two assigned games, each player automatically gets assigned every divisional game in that division. So everyone in the NFC East pool gets assigned every game between NFC East teams, in addition to their normal schedule. This means a player could have as many as four games to pick in a given week. This adds an exciting twist to our regular pool structure.”

The “Golf and the Big Game” pool requires a $ 20 entry fee, while each division pool has a $ 15 entry fee. There are a total of 20 prize spots in each of the nine pools.

Charles Jay Stands at $985K in Challenge Against SuperiorBook — Handicapper Will Keep Playing at Sportsbook Until One Side Has the Other’s Entire Bankroll

Elkhart, IN (PRWEB) November 4, 2006

After another weekend of the NFL season, handicapper Charles Jay has a little catching up to do in his $ 1 Million Sports Betting Challenge against SuperiorBook. But he doesn’t think that will be very much of a problem.

“We re-tooled our strategy and made up for a tough Saturday with a pretty good weekend in the NFL,” Jay says. “Actually, it started early Sunday morning when I had the ‘over’ in the Hawaii-Idaho game and ended with a big play on New England over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.”

Coming into the current football weekend, Jay stands at $ 985,310 in the Challenge – a unique competition in which he started with a million-dollar bankroll, and will continue to play at SuperiorBook, availing himself of the vast number of wagering options the sportsbook has to offer, until one side has won a million dollars from the other.

Since Jay has been a winning sports handicapper for over a decade and a half, he can easily see himself coming out on the positive side. Doubling his bankroll, however, presents a particular challenge-within-a-challenge.

“You’ve got to exercise some discipline and have patience,” he says. “You can’t win it all in one fell swoop. You’ve got to resign yourself to the fact that you’ve got to grind it out and stick to a plan. I got a little too overzealous the first couple of weeks and wanted to put too much action on the board. But I’ve made some adjustments that will get this ship going in the right direction.”

The $ 1 Million SuperiorBook Sports Betting Challenge is a simulation which is being conducted for promotional and educational purposes. Toward that end, Jay is keeping a regular diary of his progress, analyzing why he won or lost and in general taking the reader through the trials and tribulations of a serious sports handicapper.

SuperiorBook (http://www.superiorbook.com) is home of the WagerCart, a state-of-the-art facilitation system that makes online wagering as easy as taking a trip through a shopping cart. “The WagerCart is a terrific piece of technology,” says Jay. “I’m not sure I could make a lot of these plays so easily without it, especially as many of them are made right before game time. But I just go zip-zip-zip, and before you know it, I’m done.”

SuperiorBook is also sponsor of the SuperiorBook World Sports Handicapping Championship, a season-long tournament that allows handicappers to compete against each other for weekly prizes and a seat in the Grand Finale, which will take place over the Super Bowl weekend. To the winner goes $ 20,000 and a championship belt. All that is necessary to enter the World Sports Handicapping Championship is to visit SuperiorBook.net (http://www.superiorbook.net), the online betting school that is SuperiorBook’s sister site, and register. You’ll receive $ 1000 in play money and the weekly newsletter which contains plenty of useful information for the sports handicapper, including sports betting tips by Charles Jay and excerpts from his Challenge Diary.

For further information, please visit SuperiorBook (http://www.superiorbook.com).

About SuperiorBook:

SuperiorBook calls itself “The Easiest Sports Bet on the Net,” with lightning fast payouts, year-round deposit bonuses, state of the art technology with a revolutionary interface. There is no minimum bet, and its WagerCart certainly makes it the easiest place to play, for the novice, internediate and advanced “sportsman.” Live support is available 24 hours a day, and multiple instructional features make it the most user-friendly destination for the new customer. Football Freud’s MPI Perfectly Shrinks Bears to go 4-1 Against Super Bowl Spread

Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 6, 2007

Last week he was interviewed extensively to say that the oddsmakers had the right team, but that they did not go far enough. He declared that the Colts should soundly defeat the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI and he was right. The inventor of the Mental Performance Index(TM) (MPI(TM)), Dr. John F. Murray, who works with NFL players and has used the index throughout the last five NFL seasons to quantify the degree to which a team performs to perfection, has now beaten the official spread 4 of 5 years.

This pre-game Super Bowl forecast was published on the front page of Palm Beach Daily News with a photo of Dr. Murray at: http://www.smarttennis.com/pbdailynewsfrontpage020407.htm

The complimentary Super Bowl numerology by “The Football Shrink,” is posted on his website: http://www.JohnFMurray.com. Indianapolis won the game 29-17 on the scoreboard, and on the MPI they also won .525 to .480 on the total score. The Colts performed better than than the Bears in all six other categories as well.

The Colts were stellar in pressure defensive situations where they posted a .700 to .547 advantage over the Bears. They also held the advantage on offense (.512 to .462), special teams (.543 to .487), defense (.540 to .490), pressure offense (.559 to .275) and total pressure (.611 to .442).

Indianapolis so decisively outperformed Chicago, as expected on the MPI forecast before the game, that even this final score underestimated the degree of domination by the Colts. It was a game that the Colts could have easily won by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

The 45-year-old Ph.D. licensed sport/performance psychologist in Palm Beach assigns points on each play throughout the playoffs for “focused execution,” “pressure management,” and “reduction of mental errors,” and game totals range from .000 to 1.000 (perfection).

“Scoring at .600 is excellent,” said Murray. The Colts’ .547 average throughout the playoffs, before the Super Bow, was very impressive.

As NFL coach Herman Edwards once said, “On every play somebody screws up.” Many good football coaches encourage their teams to place their focus on one play at a time. The MPI measures how well a team does this. Its power comes from the number of plays in a game (approximately 150) and the inclusion of mental factors in the scoring. While the MPI scores almost always predict to game outcome, the scores show which teams are performing better, in precisely which specific areas, and regardless of which team won. This gives coaches great insight before their upcoming games. They are able to more clearly see not only how their own team is performing, but to anticipate the fine differences, strengths and weaknesses of their oppoents in a scoring system that standardizes performance like a baseball batting average.

The MPI accurately forecast the blowout upset win by Tampa Bay over Oakland four years ago (in Arizona Republic), and forecast “extremely close games” the next two years, beating the official spread each of the first 3 years it was used and broadcast in the national media. Last year, in its 4th public use, the MPI accurately forecast that Seattle would perform better on offense and defense and worse on special teams than the Pittsburgh Steelers. The MPI indeed showed that Seattle would perform better, but for the first time in the 4 Super Bowls, the lower performing team on the MPI won the game primarily due to three rare big plays that altered the outcome. There was also some heavy criticism about the referees. This shows that sometimes even the best data available will occasionally not predict outcome … even while predicting to performance as the MPI has done each of the previous four years. Since the Colts won by more than the official spread of 7.5 points, the MPI forecast has beaten the official spread 4 of the first 5 years.

The MPI has been featured by ESPN The Magazine (December, 2002) and Murray has appeared on hundreds of radio and television stations to discuss the MPI and sport psychology. Last year, Dr. Murray discussed the MPI on ESPN Canada, ABC television in West Palm Beach and CBS television in Sacramento. Previous appearances include Westwood One national radio, ESPN Radio affiliates (e.g., Dallas, TX and Blacksburg, VA), Ron Jacober’s award winning “Sports on Sunday Morning” on KMOX in St. Louis, Mo., numerous radio programs in Canada, and Bloomberg Radio. He made multiple media appearances leading up to the game this year and his system was featured in the Los Angels Times and on the front page of the Palm Beach Daily News (http://www.smarttennis.com/pbdailynewsfrontpage020407.htm) among many others.

Murray provides lectures, mental coaching, and sport psychology services to athletes and teams in many sports and he has worked with NFL players. He authored “Smart Tennis: How to Play and Win the Mental Game,” endorsed by Lindsay Davenport, and Vincent Spadea credited Murray for helping him overcome the longest losing streak in tennis history. Dr. Murray just returned from the Australian Open where he was the official coach of Vincent Spadea who got his first win in eight years of this tournament.

Dr. Murray is available for interviews.

Schutt Sports and Former Heisman Winner Tim Brown Announce Breakthrough Technology in Football’s War Against Heat Injuries

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) June 19, 2009

Tim Brown’s Oakland Raiders had tied their game with the Miami Dolphins and were headed into overtime. Brown, the Raider captain and star wide receiver, had left the game, suffering from heat exhaustion, only to return in time to make his way to mid-field for the OT coin toss. “I felt so bad walking out for the coin toss to see who would get the ball, I was hoping they won the toss to give me more time to recoup,” Brown recalled.

The heat had so sapped Brown that when the game was over doctors pumped three bags of fluid into his veins. “They said it was the most they had ever given a player my size,” Brown said.

How hot was Brown during that mid-1990s game? To what temperature did his body rise? No one, not even Brown, has any clue.

According to USA Football, more than 21 million Americans – from pee wee to the NFL – will play football this year. Overheating, especially among programs in the South, is an area of long-time concern for coaches, parents, certified athletic trainers and administration. Heat-related injuries have caused the deaths of 25 athletes since 2000. Until now, team officials have never been able to accurately monitor the true temperature of an athlete on the field.

Brown, who will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year, was in San Antonio for the National Athletic Trainers Association convention today to share details of one of the greatest breakthroughs in player protection to come to football in years.

Schutt and HotHead Technologies have developed the first-ever helmet fitted with a temperature sensing device that can identify athletes who are overheating before they require three bags of fluid – and before the heat does irreparable damage to their bodies. A dime-sized sensor in the forehead pad of the helmet relays accurate body temperature readings of every player on the field to a personal digital assistant (PDA) on the sidelines that is monitored by a certified athletic trainer.

The H.O.T. System? will act as an early warning detection system for heat stroke and other heat-related injuries, giving certified athletic trainers, coaches and doctors a distinct advantage in their battle with heat.

“I never could have imagined my helmet could have let me and the trainers know I was overheating,” Brown said. “I believe this product will be life-saving. Here in Texas, we hear of players suffering from heat strokes or heat-related injuries all summer. This product will give the player confidence to know they can push themselves knowing their body temperature is being monitored. This is great for athletes because pushing ourselves to no end is what sports is all about in our minds. Now we have a product to stop us before we get to the ‘no end’ stage.”

Dallas Cowboys New Starting Quarterback Tony Romo has Promising History, One that has SportsGambling.com Players Looking at Cowboys as Underdog this Sunday against Carolina

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 26, 2006

Tony Romo had a strong showing in the 2005 preseason and was named the second-string backup behind Drew Bledsoe. In the 2006 preseason, Romo had one of the best games in his career against the Seattle Seahawks. Romo’s first NFL pass resulted in a 34 yard reception to Sam Hurd vs. the Houston Texans on October 15, 2006. During the same game, Romo threw his first NFL touchdown pass to Terrell Owens. Romo replaced Drew Bledsoe for the start of the 2nd half this past Monday against the Giants. His first pass was intercepted but he would later throw another touchdown to Terrell Owens and score the two point conversion himself.

Tony Romo grew up in Burlington, Wisconsin, playing high school football at Burlington High School, and played his college ball at Eastern Illinois University, where he broke school and conference records as a quarterback. On Dec. 19, 2002, Tony Romo was the first player in Eastern Illinois and Ohio Valley Conference history to win the Walter Payton Award, given annually to the nation’s top player at the NCAA Division 1-AA level. He finished his career holding school and conference records with 85 touchdown passes. He was brought in by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2003 training camp as an undrafted rookie free agent, and is now the starting quarterback.

Bledsoe has been inconsistent all season and behind a poor offensive line has been sacked far too often for the Cowboys to be successful. Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells has been a supporter of Bledsoe in the past, but is going to Romo in hopes of saving the season for the Cowboys.

Romo and the Cowboys are a 6 point underdog to Carolina on Sunday night with a total of 40.5 at http://www.sportsgambling.com

Romo is also a good amateur golfer, and attempted to qualify for the 2004 EDS Byron Nelson Championship and the 2005 U.S. Open, but missed the cut. During the off-season he is known to play golf around Dallas and is also a frequent guest on local sports radio programs. Tony Romo has been the co-host of “Inside the Huddle”, a one-hour player commentary show that airs on ESPN Radio in Dallas.

Romo is adored by his alma mater, which has not had many pro athletes. Mike Shanahan, coach of the Denver Broncos, also played quarterback for Eastern Illinois University. In addition to Shanahan, Sean Payton and Brad Childress also played for Eastern Illinois.

SportsGambling has great betting propositions for the game in addition to the side and total.
