Southern California tops the inaugural Internet Writers and Radio Broadcasters College Football Poll

(PRWEB) September 22, 2004

Southern California is the number one team in the inaugural Internet Writer’s and Radio Broadcaster’s Poll. The Trojans racked up half of the first place votes and was the only team to be named to the top five on every ballot.

The Oklahoma Sooners finished second in the poll followed by the Miami Hurricanes. SEC teams Georgia and Tennessee round out the top five

Texas starts the second five with Ohio State right behind. The Auburn Tigers, off their strong performance against LSU, come in at eighth. California and Virginia round out the top ten in a tie for ninth.

West Virginia and Utah slot in at tenth and eleventh followed by the Florida State Seminoles. The Big Ten gets its second team in the poll at number fourteen with Purdue. Pat Hill’s Fresno State Bulldogs round out the top fifteen.

The LSU Tigers and Florida Gators are the SEC’s 4th and 5th teams and Nos. 16 and 17 followed by the Big Ten’s 2nd and 3rd teams Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Boise State Broncos finish up the top twenty.

Michigan comes in at number twenty with Oklahoma State right behind. Riding the momentum of the big win against Iowa, Arizona State takes the 23rd slot followed by the Louisville Cardinals. The last team in the top twenty-five is the 3-0 Boston College

Eagles.

Only the top five teams (USC, Oklahoma, Miami, Georgia, and Tennessee) received top five votes from at least half of all voters. USC receieved ten first place votes, Oklahoma had seven, Miami had two, and Georgia received the final one.

Maryland, Virginia Tech, Southern Miss, Iowa, and Colorado just missed out on making the top twenty five.

The Internet Writer’s and Radio Broadcaster’s Poll is comprised of voters from across the nation who are either free-lance writers, work for alternative media, or are radio broadcasters. The poll is designed to give votes to people who get to watch more than one or two games per weekend (AP beat writers) and have no systematic bias (coaches). We believe it is the most accurate of the polls when it comes to evaluating teams from the vantage point of actually watching the teams play multiple times against different opponents in varying situations. In a nutshell, the jobs that writers and coaches have actually impair their ability to evaluate all teams fairly. Our voters don’t have that problem. The poll will be released every Tuesday morning.

The Adversity and Opportunity of a Rare Commodity in College Football?the African American Coach

Vancouver, Wash. (PRWEB) December 14, 2005 -

BookSurge announces the publication of Innocence in the Red Zone, by Roger M. Groves.

College and professional sports has increasingly become a ticket out of the inner city and poverty for African American athletes. Recruiters from the Big Ten and other college athletic departments discovered that talent and drive often thrived in the mean streets, and it translated into electrifying athletics on the basketball courts and football fields of the major universities.

Presently, African American players dominate the collegiate grid irons, but upward movement into coaching and other post-player positions have rarely materialized for these smart, quick, dedicated athletes.

Roger M. Groves drilled down into the records, the statistics, and the past in the Big Ten football programs to find out why such a disparity existed and continues to exist between African American and white players who go on to become head coaches and decision makers in America?s heartland of athletics and professional sports.

He illustrates this story of disparity by focusing on Bobby Williams, Michigan State University head coach and bowl winner one year and unemployed two years later. In a cross-examination using facts and interviews, he ably indicts the system that allows the disparity to continue year after year, decade after decade.

But the book is not just an indictment, it’s also an invitation. It provides multiple recommendations to university decision makers on how to hire and not fire African American coaches. Groves fervently and humbly asks that they remember what the venerable president of MSU said decades ago “In education only people are important” so when accepting student athletes with unique academic challenges, they compassionately provide coaches that care and connect with those players and send them out better off than when they came in.

The Greek Sportsbook Readies for College Football with More Proposition and Future Bet Offerings

Montego Bay, Jamaica (PRWEB) June 25, 2006

The Greek Sportsbook, a leader in online sports betting, continues its prominence in college sports with more offerings on college football for the upcoming season.

This week, The Greek Sportsbook is the first to release odds on the #1 recruiting class for incoming freshman for 2007. The Greek will use the rankings that are found at http://rivals.com one, of the premier recruiting services and websites for grading of the wager.

The battles that take place on the field are sometimes secondary to the battles that occur for players in their parents homes. Serious college football fans following the recruiting trail all year know that one key player may enable a team to move up the rankings. The Rivals.com rankings are updated daily during the academic year and change rapidly, all of which should make for competitive wagering and exciting action during the recruiting season.

The 2006 Heisman Trophy is awarded in early December but its outcome can be wagered on now. The Greek posted the odds on the Heisman award immediately following the 2005 ceremony and the current odds reflect player suspensions or other events that may have affected the market.

Senior quarterback Brady Quinn of Notre Dame is the current favorite at +250. Quinn, who considered entering the NFL draft in the off-season, should make a good case for the award with a manageable schedule and weekly national television coverage.

Adrian Peterson of the Oklahoma Sooners is the second choice at +400. The junior running back was hampered by injuries last season, but if he can duplicate his freshman season?s performance he may be taking home the award.

Ohio State?s do everything offensive weapon Ted Ginn appears a generous +1500. The Buckeye?s are one of the favorites to appear in the Fiesta Bowl and Ginn has to figure heavily in their offensive plans. Ginn?s quickness and ability to return punts for touchdowns should afford him plenty of ?highlight reel? footage for the voters to see before they cast their ballots.

Spending On College Bowl Game Title Sponsorships To Total $53 Million In 2007

Chicago, Ill. (PRWEB) December 21, 2007

Sponsor spending to title college football bowl games will total $ 53 million in the ‘07-’08 bowl season that kicks off tonight, up 8.2 percent from $ 49 million last year, according to IEG Sponsorship Report, the world’s leading authority on sponsorship.

Three games have new title sponsors this year, while no bowls lost a naming rights partner without replacing it.

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. took title of the Gator Bowl, replacing Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC’s 12-year-old sponsorship. Valero Energy Corp. increased its longtime support of the Alamo Bowl — which ran last year without a name sponsor — through a three-year title deal.

In the most unique deal of the year in terms of sponsor categories, Roady’s Truck Stops took title of the former MPC Computers Bowl and revived the game’s former Humanitarian Bowl moniker.

Four of this season’s 31 bowls do not have a title sponsor, including the Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi and the Motor City Bowl, neither of which offer title to partners. The Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl lost Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC as presenting sponsor, although the company remains a cosponsor.

Sponsorship of the Bowl Championship Series national title game rotates from Fiesta Bowl titler Tostitos to Sugar Bowl titler Allstate for next month’s Ohio State-LSU match-up.

“Bowl games continue to benefit from their extensive media exposure and the opportunity to tap into the passion of students, alumni and other college football fans,” said William Chipps, IEG Sponsorship Report’s senior editor.

In addition, non-BCS bowls continue to increase sponsorship revenue by providing access to databases and mailing lists, offering promotional platforms to sponsors and vendors, and creating ancillary events around games to offer more one-on-one touchpoints for sponsors and their stakeholders.

Gay College Football Team to Compete in National Championship Bowl Game in Horatian Satire

(PRWEB) January 6, 2010

The General Academic University ?Dandy Lions? (12-0) clash with Coast Guard?s ?Drunken Seamen? (12-0) to decide the National Championship at the Sheepskin Condom Bowl in Michael DeMarco?s (http://www.demarcomedia.com) much anticipated Horatian Satire/viral marketing platform ?General Academic University?. The animated short was created by marketing guru Michael DeMarco as a social commentary on the dangers of political correctness and of positive stereotyping in sport and society while marrying the potential of viral commerce. Animated by Chris Tucker.

The idea sprang from the 2005 reprimand of then head coach of the Air Force Falcons? of 23 years Fisher Deberry for stating that black players ?can run really well?. Deberry resigned, many believe under duress, the following year.

?Political correctness is destroying our country. You can?t compliment a group or, apparently, you lose your job. PC has effectively stolen our right to free speech. I?m taking it back with a gay football team that just so happens to be the best college football team in the world? Says writer, director/producer Michael DeMarco.

The motive is not completely altruistic. As an intellectual property, General Academic University is a venue where comedy, controversy, and commerce meet. As a viral advertising platform, G.A.U. borrows its model from traditional broadcast commercial television to maximize profitability.

Mr. Demarco believes the key factor hindering viral advertising from taking over as the standard is a lack of business vision and profit from the creative side.

‘I?m not pushing conventional viral strategy, I?m pulling it? asserts DeMarco.

Sponsors for episode one include recording artists Vanessa Thompson and Inergroove. Extreme sports gear brand BadMFer and urban model Elke the Stallion. Green Dot Environmental and an online reality show and book by adult film legend Sunset Thomas. Voice over performed by Vince Sartini of PowerPlay Audio Productions.

About Michael DeMarco: Michael DeMarco is a marketing guru and pundit who has been seen, heard, or read about by over a billion people worldwide as the front man for various clients. He hosts The Biggest Radio Show in the World Syndicated on World Talk Radio and Voice America.
