Call For Entries: In Search of Inspiring Stories, Do Something World Launches Global Video Contest

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) February 23, 2011

Seeking to inspire and gather a collection of outstanding original stories on the subject of extraordinary community service, Do Something World (DSW), is hosting a video contest with a 1st place prize of $ 5,000. The top 50 submissions will be awarded cash prizes by the judging panel. The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2011.

Miles McPherson, pastor and author, founded “Do Something World” to encourage churches and individuals to take action by positively impacting people?s lives through volunteerism and community service. A former NFL football player and founder of the Rock Church San Diego, McPherson authored DO Something: Make Your Life Count, which has quickly inspired an international movement of service. McPherson recognizes the effects of the economic crisis on communities and the powerful impact individuals can have by volunteering to serve.

?We?re confident this contest will produce some wonderful stories of service told by talented, creative storytellers,? said McPherson. ?The video format is a powerful medium and we want to leverage video to illustrate how people around the globe are doing something to serve in their communities. We?re looking for videos that illustrate and embody the message, mission and strategy of Do Something World as an organization.?

The format for submissions was left intentionally broad: Entries can be one to four minutes in length and must be consistent with the mission of Do Something World. Beyond that, contest guidelines leave space for artistic interpretation and expression. Video content can be previously published material or new material developed specifically for the DSW contest. Entries from both professionals and amateurs are encouraged. Contest guidelines are available at http://dosomethingvideos.com.

DSW is building a unique platform to act as a global forum for the free exchange of ideas and content that will encourage and instruct volunteerism and community service. The Video Contest kicks off the effort to aggregate these inspiring stories, providing a rich resource for volunteers and the organizations that they serve.

Contest and entry details can be found at http://dosomethingvideos.com.

Sports Handicapping and Pick Monitoring Website Wagertracker.com Launches New Contest Software

(PRWEB) August 28, 2007

Nearly a year after embarking on a dramatic design and systems upgrade of the program that permits sports fans and handicappers to track their bets online, the final product has arrived with many more bells and whistles.

“It’s like a perfect storm of sports handicapping tools, sports contests and software to run your sports pools online,” explained professional sports handicapper Rich Crew, who advised on some of the gameplay and programming re-design. “Everyone likes to claim that their site provides everything a sports fan needs in one spot, but WagerTracker.com comes the closest to actually backing up the claim.”

Sports handicappers have long reveled in the wager-tracker program that permits them to log picks and bets made in contests, at a sports lottery kiosk or at overseas and Vegas-based sportsbooks.

The new engine provides all that core functionality and plenty of valuable new features to help them identify handicapping trends and target winning angles.

“Handicappers can do their research on WagerTracker using the consensus plays tool, which shows which side of a game is getting the lion’s share of public, or recreational, money,” said Crew. “It’s also useful for fantasy sports fans as well as those playing NFL contests, who may need to go with or against the grain of public opinion when making their decisions.”

WagerTracker.com has also enhanced its monitoring of wagering habits and displaying that data in easy-to-read formats. Sports bettors have been able to identify mistakes and patterns in their wagering styles that can be mitigated after viewing WagerTracker.com reports.

“You can sort by sport, by bet type and various other means that can help improve return on investment at the sportsbook. You like to think you can manage these leaks in your handicapping style, but until you see it right there in front of you in black and white, it can be a money-losing blind spot for even a successful handicapper.”

The site is also home to a larger array of free sports handicapping competitions including NFL and college football handicapping contests. Players can pocket real cash from the free challenges, where sponsors expect to give away more than $ 10,000 in 2007-2008.

The contests encourage creative gameplay by picking winners based on point spreads, totals and moneylines.

Free office pool software is a new cornerstone of the site and offers fantasy sports gurus and other contest fanatics a robust platform from which to run their games and leagues.

“Sports fans have access to plenty of free pools software, but much of it is garbage, quite frankly,” said Crew. “This is clean, scaleable and configurable. And best of all, it’s free.”

The site will be going live with new football handicapping contests in the next week, while its ongoing baseball contests continue through October.

Visit Wagertracker.com for more details.

Maddux Sports Earns Second-Place in Major NFL Handicapping Contest

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) January 8, 2009

In the frenzy of the NCAA Bowl season and the NFL playoffs and with the college and professional basketball season pushing into high gear, Maddux Sports President Sal Selvaggio practices what he preaches. Selvaggio, who has spent more than a decade in sports handicapping, focuses on the big picture and the long run and not the occasional wager and quick hit.

From his office in Chicago, Illinois, Selvaggio, who is an expert football handicapper, observes that there are three key elements to his recent achievement in the Pro Challenge that mirror the success of his handicapping service. Selvaggio comments, “If you want to make money in sports betting, then you have to follow the sport and know it inside out. Also, successful sports betting isn’t about winning the all or nothing bet. The pros, the people who make their living by wagering on sports, are in it for the duration, playing from week to week.” He adds, “Finally, you have to bet responsibly with a clear head, using facts and negating emotion. Hunches work sometimes but facts, stats and analysis work best.”

In a business that’s known for being inconsistent and in which hundreds of millions of dollars are bet and lost each year, Selvaggio is all about being consistent. Professional handicappers, the best of the best in the world, are right about 55% of the time. That means that some weeks they hit just 40% of their wagers, which translates into a loss. Another week, they might go five-of-five, having made five picks and winning each. Yet another week they might be good on 55% of their bets. The three-week average, which includes two winnings weeks and one losing, is 65%. That’s about as good as it gets.

Selvaggio was correct on five of his five picks in week 17 of the Pro Challenge tournament. That perfect mark earned him second-place. The President of Maddux Sports, who finished just one pick out of first, believes it’s important that he stay in the betting mix by wagering on sporting events and participating in public contests such as the Pro Challenge. He could simply sell handicapping services but, as he notes, “That’s like writing a book on car repair without getting under the hood or selling tips on real estate investment without ever having successfully bought and sold property yourself.”

Each participant in the Pro Challenge paid $ 250.00 to enter the contest. For 17 weeks, the 400 handicappers made five NFL picks from the Pro Challenge football card that included point spreads. For his $ 250.00 investment, Selvaggio earned $ 9,666.67, which was almost 40 times his initial investment. He averaged 3.3 correct picks per week.

Selvaggio, who created Maddux Sports in 2001, stresses that bettors must have realistic expectations and learn money management techniques in order to be successful. “Too often bettors are trying to make a killing rather than a profit or attempting to make up for loses by putting money down on crazy, panic-driven wagers. Maddux Sports is founded on the belief that people can make money and even their living by wagering on sports. But in order to do so, you have to treat it like any other business. It takes work to profit.”

Maddux Sports offers a range of free as well as premium services. Selvaggio, who stresses that an informed bettor has the best chance for success, offers numerous services for free, including daily picks, live odds, articles on sports handicapping and betting, a daily sports blog and season and playoff previews for MLB, the NFL, NBA and NCAA basketball and football. He also provides premium, competitively priced pick services for all major professional and college sports in America, including daily picks or pick packages that cover an entire sport’s season or a whole calendar year.

Never one to make outlandish promises, such as “everyone of our picks is a winner” or “we guarantee you’ll hit 70% of your bets from now on,” Selvaggio does guarantee his service. If a purchased package does not result in a profit, then equal time is given by Maddux Sports free of charge.

For more information on Maddux Sports, handicapping and sports betting, visit http://www.madduxsports.com/.

About Sal Selvaggio:

Born in the Chicago area, Selvaggio grew up a Chicago sports fan and started his handicapping career in 1998. As the power of the Internet loomed, he realized that there was a niche for a specific type of handicapping service. Selvaggio created MadduxSports.com in order to serve those who were interested in being knowledgeable, long-term sports bettors.

In 2001, he started a website, focusing on educating bettors, providing them with free information and offering premium pick services for all major America sports–professional baseball, football, basketball and hockey and college football and basketball.

As his business grew, Selvaggio added numerous free services, including live online odds from all major sports books, a sports blog and full-season and playoff previews of MLB, the NFL, NBA and NCAA basketball and football.

In addition to overseeing the daily operation of MadduxSports.com, he continues to be an active and successful professional handicapper and bettor.
