Home Sweet Home’s “Schools That Care” Campaign – A Grassroots Approach to Raising Awareness and $1 Million Dollars for Veterans

Gilbert, AZ (PRWEB) April 27, 2009

The Home Sweet Home Campaign kicked off their first “Schools That Care” T-shirt design contest in Gilbert, Arizona this month. This grassroots approach is the first in a series of community outreach campaigns focusing on building awareness and raising funds for war veterans. The Home Sweet Home Campaign has pledged to raise $ 1 million dollars for USA Cares, a 501(c)3 organization who helps post 9/11 military families bear the burdens of service with financial and advocacy support. Ask campaign founder Beth Ann VanHoose how she will do it, “One city and one T-shirt at a time”, is her reply.

Beth Ann was motivated to take action after hearing, piece by piece, one local veteran’s post Iraq and Afghanistan experience. Tim Little, an Army reservist who has served two tours of duty, Tim found himself unable to return to his pre-deployment job, causing extra financial stress on himself and his family. His story is not unlike the thousands of National Guard, Reserve and Active Duty soldiers who have fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

“It shouldn’t be so difficult for our soldiers to find help and resources while they are being evaluated by the VA,” says Beth Ann. “This is why I started the Home Sweet Home Campaign, to hopefully make it a little bit easier for the next soldier in need.” So working closely with Superstition Springs Elementary and Highland High School, over 250 students have entered the contest. Judges representing many walks of life, all with one thing in common, their commitment to our country and to support our soldiers will be picking the top 3 designs. The jury included Ryan Fitzpatrick, NFL Quarterback for the Buffalo Bills and a 2005 Highland High Graduate; Ruth Knowles, president of the Arizona Artist Guild; Tim Little, War Veteran and Purple Heart recipient; and Maria Martens, member of the American Gold Star Mothers.

Three winners will be announced on April 28th and their “one of a kind” T-shirt designs will be featured on the Home Sweet Home website at http://www.OurSoldiers.org. For every T-shirt sold, $ 5.00 will be donated to USA Cares. According to Kim Moorman, Director of Business Development at non-profit USA Cares, who said, “One of the things I like about what they are doing is that they provide a tangible product to everyone who helps them raise money to assist military families.”

The “Schools That Care” contest will travel across the country this fall working with schools in the states of Washington, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina and Georgia. By the end of 2009, the Home Sweet Home website will have over 20 “one of kind” T-shirts featured on their site.

Snapchef Cooks Up a Millon Dollars From Scratch

Foxborough, MA (PRWEB) February 6, 2006

Amidst the cheers of fans for their beloved New England Patriots as they won a wild card game another wild card drama unfolded behind the scenes at Gillette Stadium. Mr. Ronald Green, a veteran cook of SNAPCHEF staffing, was scratching a five dollar Massachusetts lottery ticket after a 12 hour shift. He had scratched a ONE MILLION DOLLAR winner.

At the day?s outset Gillette food services, who uses SNAPCHEF to help feed all the fans, had presented six SNAPCHEF MVP?s for the year with a Patriots Radio and thanked the entire crew of 35 chefs. Owner of SNAPCHEF, Todd Snopkowski, had given everyone scratch tickets as an additional token of gratitude for excellence over 2005 season. Ron got his ticket but put it in his pocket and went to run his station in The Gillette Clubhouse. That was at 1PM!

Mr. Green has had a difficult year marked by financial difficulties for himself and his family. When he saw that he had won he was literarily in disbelief. He went to the head chef and asked for confirmation ?is this real?? Then Chef summoned security and Mr. Green was placed in his office with an armed guard. The SNAPCHEF team soon found out and then the word that a cook had won a million dollars went around the stadium.

The cheerleaders appeared and wanted to pose with Mr. Green for the camera. SNAPCHEF teammates all came by to congratulate and then fans were all buzzing with the news.

The Patriots had won and so had the cook! They had a rough start in the season but were potentially en route to the Super Bowl. Ron had a bad year but success was at hand. The Patriots have strong leadership as does SNAPCHEF. Just like the Patriots huddle the SNAPCHEF team has a pre-meal where strategy is outlined. Finally, like the Patriots may have changed football history this fateful evening Mr. Ron Green has changed the course of his and his family?s history forever.

Mr. Green was whisked from the stadium to his home. When asked what he would do he said ?I?ve already thanked my boss for the gift of a lifetime and I?m going to buy something nice for my wife and think about it.?

We?re sure he?ll cook up a tasty plan.

The Abbey Company Breaks Ground On A Billion Dollars

Palm Springs, CA (PRWEB) November 27, 2007

When the shovel hits the dirt at 265 North El Cielo in Palm Springs on November 29th, The Abbey Company hits two milestones: breaking ground on their first ground-up construction office building in Palm Springs; and announcing gross commercial asset value of over one billion dollars in California.

“We’re in this uniquely positive position today,” said Don Abbey, founder and CEO. “Despite market trends in the other direction, the Abbey Company is expanding our portfolio and growing our business at a very ambitious pace. We targeted Palm Springs for our first 2008 ground-up project because we believe in the market.”

The new building already enjoys an interesting history. In the 70’s, three office buildings were envisioned by Palm Springs architect Frank Urrutia, to grace a prime piece of land directly across from Palm Springs International Airport. Two of those buildings were completed, at 255 and 275 North El Cielo. The third site remained a vacant lot. Traditionally known as a renovator, The Abbey Company purchased the two buildings and the lot and gave Urrutia the opportunity to fulfill his original vision as the architect for the ground-up construction of building three.

265 North El Cielo is now available for lease, with a target for completing construction by late 2008. The two existing Abbey buildings on El Cielo house professional and medical tenants such as Desert Oasis Healthcare, the first full-service medical facility and largest independent practice association in the Coachella Valley.

With six buildings in Palm Springs, including 340, 400 and 490 Farrell Drive, and 53 commercial properties statewide, encompassing over 5 million square feet and housing approximately 1,200 tenants, Don Abbey’s management philosophy has proven successful. Since the purchase of his first building for $ 150,000 seventeen years ago, each Abbey building has been managed by local property and leasing managers who provide on-site services that tenants appreciate. Don Abbey’s own background holds a fascinating story. After graduating Penn State where he was a starting fullback under legendary coach Joe Paterno, Abbey was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. In 1976 he entered the real estate business and in 1990 bought his first building. In 2006, he donated $ 3.5 million for restoration of the Beta Theta Pi chapter at his alma mater and founded the Abbey Leadership Foundation there.
