Toyota Assembly Plant Ready for Construction after Massive Civil Engineering Work Completed by Facility Designer SSOE

Blue Springs, MS (Vocus) September 27, 2007

SSOE, Inc., one of the nation?s largest architecture and engineering firms, recently completed site design for the new Toyota assembly plant in Blue Springs, Miss. This is the largest site work and earth moving project that Toyota has ever undertaken in the US. It is a civil engineering feat that requires moving 16 million cubic yards of earth in order to make the site level enough to construct Toyota?s newest assembly plant on the site.

Contractors began moving the earth on September 1, coinciding with the start of foundation and structural steel construction. SSOE is providing full architecture and engineering services for the facility, which will produce the Toyota Highlander sport utility vehicle beginning by 2010. These services include civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection and chemical process design.

The Blue Springs, Mississippi, earthwork package represents four times more earth moved in less time than any other Toyota project in North America. SSOE engineers faced the challenge to develop a plan to move roughly enough dirt to fill an average NFL football stadium approximately 25 times.

SSOE employed an integration of NavisWorks 3D/4D Design Review software and Bentley InRoads road and site design software to help shape the site before and after the civil engineering portion of the project. SSOE was able to effectively integrate results from the InRoads site evaluation with the virtual building design model to arrive at a single 3D model reflective of both. The integrated design was presented to Toyota using NavisWorks 3D/4D Design Review software to clearly show where the earth moving would take place and how it would affect the overall design. SSOE was also able to utilize this software to develop a plan that would use the earth removed from one area to fill in areas requiring additional earth ensuring that none would have to be brought onto or taken away from the location. An emphasis was placed on minimizing the distance the earth had to be moved within the site in order to save time and money.

The 2.4-million-square-foot facility that will be constructed on the 1,700 acre site is expected to be operational by 2010 and house 2,000 employees. At a total cost of approximately $ 1.3 billion, the facility is expected to produce 150,000 vehicles per year and will include stamping, welding, painting and assembly.

SSOE has an array of expertise for engineering and designing the Toyota Blue Springs facility. A large portion of SSOE?s Automotive and Industrial Facilities strategic business unit will be involved, and the chemical processes and wastewater treatment systems necessary for the facility will require specialized services from SSOE?s Industrial Process group.

?Working with Toyota to design this plant is a great opportunity for us and will enhance our long standing relationship with them,? said Craig Bowie, Senior Vice President of Automotive and Industrial Facilities. ?SSOE has demonstrated the ability in past projects to work with Toyota to achieve the project goals in a timely fashion and in the end deliver a high quality facility on time and on budget.?

Colorado State’s New Indoor Athletic Facility to Feature Fieldturf

Fort Collins, CO (Vocus) June 26, 2009

FieldTurf is being installed at the brand-new indoor athletics practice facility that is being completed at Colorado State, it was jointly announced today by CSU Director of Athletics Paul Kowalczyk and FieldTurf CEO Joe Fields. The installation of the new FieldTurf, which will be on the facility’s football field, is now close to completion.

This new, as-yet unnamed indoor facility is expected to be a boon for Colorado State athletics, as CSU had been the only Mountain West Conference school without one. The Rams are already accustomed to FieldTurf, as they play their home games at Hughes Stadium on the world leader in artificial turf.

“I think FieldTurf is outstanding,” said CSU Head Football Coach Steve Fairchild. “Indoors or outdoors, in inclement weather or blistering heat, it holds up remarkably well and drains quickly so it doesn’t affect the outcome of a game, and that’s really what you want in a playing surface. At Colorado State, we’ve installed it at our home stadium, on one of our outdoor practice fields, and now in our new indoor facility. Players love it, too. It’s great for our game.”

“One of the biggest compliments that we can get at FieldTurf is when a university that already has FieldTurf is so pleased with our product that they want more of it,” said Fields. “That’s the case at Colorado State, and we couldn’t be more pleased. It’s very gratifying to know that Mr. Kowalczyk, Coach Fairchild and others in the Rams’ athletics department have that type of confidence and appreciation for what FieldTurf provides to their athletes.”

The new 66,267-square-foot indoor practice facility will include a 70-yard football field, a four-lane training track, a full-size basketball court plus two half-courts, two full-size volleyball courts, locker rooms and training rooms. There will also be space to allow for hitting practice for the school’s softball and golf teams.

The NFL Players Association released their bi-annual ranking of NFL stadium fields during a January 29 press conference in Tampa prior to the Super Bowl. Once again, the results tabbed FieldTurf as the runaway leader among all artificial turf brands. In data gathered from polling/voting of over 1500 NFL players, 40% of the league’s Top Ten surfaces were FieldTurf fields. In addition, four of the top five and eight of the top ten artificial turf fields in the league are FieldTurf, according to that NFLPA data.

FieldTurf offers industry leading engineering and manufacturing resources, unparalleled leasing and financing capabilities and leads the synthetic turf industry with regard to setting higher environmental standards. FieldTurf is the global market leader in terms of synthetic sports fields with over 3000 fields installed. Additionally, FieldTurf has attained over 12,000 satisfied customers in high quality pet, residential, commercial and municipal landscaping solutions, playground surfacing and has a complete range of golf and tennis products. FieldTurf synthetic turf customers enjoy the benefits of significantly reduced water consumption, the elimination of fertilizer and pesticides, superior durability and drainage and a product that looks and feels real. The positive environmental impact of FieldTurf provides the added benefit of LEED building contributions.

FieldTurf is part of Tarkett Sports, a Division of the Tarkett Group. Tarkett Sports is the largest entity in the sports and landscape surfacing industries. Included within the Tarkett Sports portfolio is an impressive range of performance sports flooring products. This product range includes: synthetic and hardwood basketball; volleyball and gymnasium flooring; squash and racquetball courts; floor protection and covering systems; weight room flooring; and high performance indoor and outdoor running tracks, featuring Beynon track surfaces. All Tarkett Sports surfaces are developed, produced and installed with a concentration on sustainability and a commitment to protecting the environment, providing additional LEED contribution opportunities for customers. The company calls this focus on sustainability and the environment ‘Environmental Intelligence’ and all company personnel strive to exemplify this philosophy in all aspects of the business. Former World War I Segregated Company Housing Facility Holds Grand Opening

Beloit, Wis (PRWEB) June 19, 2009

Today Gorman & Company, a national affordable housing development firm based in Madison, Wis, held the grand opening of Fairbanks Flats Rowhomes. Originally built in 1917 during World War I as segregated workforce housing, Gorman & Company redeveloped the original 24 units into 16 rent-to-own, affordable townhouses for low-to-moderate income families and people with disabilities. The four original buildings maintain the look and feel of the historic design and feature two- and three-bedroom homes ranging in size from 1,288 to 1,787 square feet.

National Football League head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Caldwell, was on hand for the ceremony and spoke of Fairbanks Flats’ historic significance and the impact it has made on the greater community. Caldwell is from Beloit, Wis and grew up in the Fairbanks Flats area.

Listed on both the National Register of Historical Places and the Wisconsin State Register, the original four buildings at Fairbanks Flats were built by Fairbanks Morse, an engine manufacturer and Beloit’s largest employer at the time. Fairbanks Morse recruited African-Americans from the South to replace the white labor force that had left to serve in World War I. A handful of African-American families had lived in Beloit since the mid-1800s, but the population grew immensely with Fairbanks Flats serving as a gateway to the city, “an Ellis Island,” as one past resident called it. Within a decade, nearly 1,000 African-Americans called Beloit home.

“The redevelopment and rebirth of Fairbanks Flats is symbolic of positive change,” said Gary Gorman, president of Gorman & Company. “A place which once represented division and separation, now offers new opportunity and reflects community. The city of Beloit, Wis, the Fairbanks Flats Revitalization Group, community supporters, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA), our project partners and dedicated employees were all integral parts in accomplishing this transformation.”

WHEDA provided nearly $ 2 million in affordable housing tax credits to the project. Gorman & Company, utilizing the Emerging Business Enterprise Program, exceeded WHEDA’s goal of 25%, with 33% minority business participation on the development. The City of Beloit donated the property and contributed a $ 150,000 interest-free loan to help finance the project.

“WHEDA is a proud partner with Gorman & Company on the Fairbanks Flats development,” said WHEDA Executive Director Antonio Riley. “These redeveloped homes are a testament to Beloit’s past, present and future. The future residents of Fairbanks can enjoy a piece of the City’s history and at the same time, create roots of their own as future homeowners.”

Residents at Fairbanks Flats will have an opportunity to purchase their homes after 15 years. This rent-to-own feature provides an opportunity for residents to benefit from financial tools designed into the program and to own a piece of Beloit’s history. At the end of 15 years, the property will be conveyed to a nonprofit organization that will sell the homes at a discounted price equal to a low outstanding loan balance plus the costs to administer the program.

“This celebration, a long time coming, is important for historical preservation, the City of Beloit and those African Americans whose roots are grounded in the Beloit experience,” said Wanda Sloan, a founding member of the Fairbanks Flats Revitalization Committee.

“Fairbanks Flats Rowhomes provides much needed affordable housing in Beloit,” said Miles Cary, Bank of America Community Development Banking Senior Vice President. “We are pleased to be able to provide the tax credit equity investment for this important development.”

Project partners in Fairbank Flats include Alliant Capital, which provided the low income housing tax credit investment; Bank of America, which provided the historic tax credit investment; and US Bank, which provided construction and permanent project lending.

Gorman & Company, Inc., headquartered in Oregon, Wis, began in 1984 with a mission to create high-quality housing opportunities. Working with both public and private partners, Gorman & Company specializes in the renovation of historic buildings and renaissance of traditional urban neighborhoods. The company is renowned for its quality craftsmanship, dependability, and sensitivity to building communities. For more information or to view our portfolio, please visit http://www.GormanUSA.com.

Portsmouth FC and viagogo Launch New Ticket Exchange Facility

London, UK (PRWEB) August 18, 2007

viagogo, Europe’s leading secondary ticketing company, has today announced an exciting new partnership deal with Portsmouth Football Club.

This deal makes viagogo Portsmouth FC’s official secondary ticketing partner and the new service enables ticket holders to legally re-sell their tickets to fellow Pompey fans for fixtures at Fratton Park. This is the first time Portsmouth fans have had this opportunity, as under current laws, all other ways of re-selling football match tickets are illegal. In addition, viagogo will also assist in selling match day hospitality packages for the club.

viagogo is an online secondary ticket exchange that facilitates the exchange between people who want to sell and people who want to buy live event tickets, allowing them to do so in a safe and guaranteed environment. By managing payment and delivery the company guarantees that buyers will receive their tickets and sellers will receive payment.

This deal extends viagogo’s relationship with Premiership clubs. The company launched in August 2006 by announcing ticketing partnerships with Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC and this year it has launched its secondary ticketing exchange service with Everton FC and Blackburn Rovers FC in the Premiership, FC Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. No other online ticketing exchange has developed the capability or the relationships to offer this service to football fans.

Eric Baker, CEO of viagogo said. “We offer fans the only legal opportunity to re-sell tickets, and we do so in a safe, convenient and guaranteed way. Pompey fans finally have the chance to purchase hard-to-get or sold out tickets to matches without illegally buying tickets from un-secure online vendors or match day ticket touts.”

Taos Eco Park Becomes Highest Altitude FIFA 2-Star Training Facility in the World

Dalton, GA (PRWEB) December 14, 2010

The Taos Eco Park featuring Shaw Sportexe synthetic turf, located in Taos, New Mexico, has become among the elite four fields in the U.S. to achieve FIFA 2-star recommended status. It is currently the highest altitude FIFA 2-Star training facility in the world. Located 7,000 feet above sea level, Taos Eco-Park will be used to aid professional and international soccer teams and players with training in high altitude environments, in addition to youth and community events in various sports including, but not limited to, American football, rugby and lacrosse.

?The Shaw Sportexe team helped transform the vision of Taos Eco Park into a world class football pitch,? said Joel Israel, Executive Director of the Taos Sports Alliance. ?Players and coaches from New Mexico and around the world can utilize Taos Eco Park?s high altitude training location at 7,000 feet, with the benefit of a FIFA 2 Star Field Certification.?

The FIFA 2-star certification process requires a stringent series of testing for performance criteria such as ball roll, vertical ball rebound, force reduction, rotational resistance and several additional tests designed to mirror the playing characteristics of professional soccer. The testing is performed by a FIFA approved lab and consists of both on-field and lab tests.

The Taos Eco Park field features Shaw Sportexe?s PowerBlade HP turf system which consists of a 2.5? monofilament fiber and a mixture of sand and rubber infill. The new surface will provide both consistency and durability for years to come.

?Credit for the FIFA 2-Star Field Certification goes to the entire Shaw Sportexe team,? says Israel. ?The Town of Taos received excellent service from our territory manager Craig Edwards to Phil Stricklen in R & D, and of course, the boots on the ground that installed the field.?

Shaw Sportexe R&D Director, Phil Stricklen commented after hearing of the news last Friday from FIFA. ?Achieving the FIFA 2-star certification is no easy task. This is a tremendous accomplishment for our company. By conducting these rigorous tests, we can ensure that both athlete-surface and ball-surface interactions are mirroring the surface of natural grass. It just continues to showcase our ability to create turf systems that meet the highest performance levels in the industry.?

?We are very proud of our entire team,? said Shaw Sportexe Divisional Vice President, Tom Enright. ?I think this just solidifies the commitment we have towards engineering and installing fields with the best combination of durability, playability and safety. While all of our fields have not been tested for the FIFA 2-Star designation, we hold these same standards to every field we do. Our systems are designed around the same criteria and ultimately strive for the same performance level.?

Enright commented further, ?We congratulate the City of Taos for this outstanding accomplishment. Their commitment to build a first-class facility with international recognition shows the commitment they have for their families and community.?

Taos Eco Park is a multi-field initiative by the Town of Taos to increase the quality of life, while creating an economic drive for the region. The facility will feature the use of a solar power lighting system to house night events. Other features will include restroom and locker room facilities and stadium seating capacity for 1,500 people. The city plans to unveil the facility in a grand opening celebration in the spring. During the event, the new Shaw Sportexe field will endure its first usage as a FIFA 2-star field as the University of New Mexico men?s soccer team takes the stage during an exhibition game. Programming for high altitude training is already underway for 2011. The city reports it has already met expectations from team training, sports camps and sport leagues scheduled events.
