Quarterback on the American Football Coaches Association All-American team and his conference offensive MVP, Watt led Trine to its third consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship. The team finished the season 11-1. He was rated No. 1 in D-III passing efficiency (182.05), completing 67% of his passes for 2,873 yards and 33 touchdowns with only six interceptions. Watt is a finance major and a member of Delta Mu Delta (business leader society) and Chi Alpha Sigma (national collegiate athlete honor society). A total of 26 senior football players from around the country were nominated by their college president with letters of recommendation coming from their coach. The final four were selected by a national committee composed of 35 former small college football players, business leaders, academicians and sports writers from around the country.

The trophy design features a sculpture of Gagliardi and a player representing the teacher-coach and the student-athlete in a classic one-on-one sideline consultation. Hand-cast in bronze on a polished wood base, the trophy stands nearly two-feet tall and weighs 64 pounds. The words ?Division III Player of the Year? and “Honoring Excellence in Football, Academics and Community Service” are etched in glass on two panels flanking the figures.

The St. Louis Bulldogs minor league football team had two players receive Central Region player of the year awards from the Minor League Football News publication. Riverfront Times contributor and free safety Toriano ?Tory? Porter and tight end Wendell Mosley were honored during the MLFN?s 9th annual Players of the Year Award selection process earlier this month.

The MLFN award players who participate in the various semi-pro and minor league football leagues around the country, based on stats, evaluation and nominations from league coaches, players and administrators. The Bulldogs are members of the North American Football League (NAFL).

Porter, a 6-foot-2 inch, 175 pound free safety, was named Defensive Back of the Year for the Central Region, while the 6-1, 205 lb. Mosley was named Tight End of the Year for the Central Region. The Central Region consists of teams and players throughout Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Minneapolis, Iowa, Kansas and Illinois.

In his sixth season for the Bulldogs, Porter led the team in interceptions with 8 and finished second in tackles with over 80 total tackles. Mosley, a veteran of the minor league scene, led the Bulldogs in receptions, touchdown receptions and receiving yards during the 2005 season.

The Bulldogs also had several other players receive Central Region ?All-America? honors, including defensive end Fred Robinson (1st team), offensive lineman Stan Johnson (1st team), linebacker Mike Paconowski (1st team), Porter (1st team) and Mosley (1st team). Kick Return Specialist Damien Wilson and linebacker Joe Anderson received 2nd Team All Central Region.

In the 1988 Cotton Bowl game against Notre Dame, Barhorst tackled future NFL star and Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Brown. Following the play, Barhorst grabbed Brown?s towel and headed for the sideline. This act enraged Brown, who chased then tackled Barhorst and earned himself a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
