Former Patriot’s Coach Believes High School Football Programs Need Better Video Presentation Tools

Franklin, MA (PRWEB) June 3, 2005

Head Coach Brad Sidwell of Franklin High School in Franklin, Mass. recently fulfilled his dream to coach with his father, former NFL Hall-of-Fame coach Steve Sidwell. As a defensive coordinator with the Patriots, Saints, Packers, Colts and Oilers, Steve’s defensive coaching skills, coupled with the teaching capabilities of the Landro® play analyzer, have encouraged head coach Brad Sidwell to believe next season will be Franklin’s best yet.

As head coach of the Franklin Panthers for the past 10 years, Brad Sidwell reorganized his program to use his father Steve’s talents after Steve retired from the NFL. Influencing the coaching staff and the players Steve helped raise the level of play on the whole, with the Panthers finishing the season 7-4, a better record than the previous two seasons. Brad explained, “I couldn’t see having such a great defense resource and not taking advantage of it. The players respect and revere him. They work extra hard just to keep him happy.”

Gearing up for his upcoming season, Brad began looking for a video teaching tool as aggressive as his newfound defensive coordinator. All he found were video editing systems. While helpful in newsrooms and in commercial video production, these systems were impractical because he’d have to turn his staff into technical editing specialists to make use of them. Brad explained, “This winter, I seriously studied all our options for video analysis. Video editors were obviously too expensive and complicated for my staff to use. Then Landro came to my attention. It was unbelievable. It’s made for true teaching and presenting in front of your team, sort of a video PowerPoint but much easier to use. I am amazed at how it works. It keeps the staff from wasting time doing things that have nothing to do with coaching. The Landro staff has been extremely helpful and their enthusiasm for helping kids get better is contagious.”

Brad continued, “The value in having quality coaches, NFL or otherwise, is in using their coaching expertise in video sessions, not in turning them into part-time video editors. Coaches know how to get in front of a team to motivate and teach, but using video tape halts the process. NFL coaches have tons of time, money and editing personnel to organize their video work. Most high school football coaches are also teachers who have to squeeze video review and practice in with everything else.”

Steve agreed, adding, “Coaching aside, Landro is a great teaching tool, period. It’s a system which is affordable and has many of the same qualities as the systems we used in the NFL. But better still, using Landro is simple and it doesn’t require hired staff to complete.”

The product, manufactured by IRIS Technologies of Greenburg PA, was produced specifically for coaches to give them tape-less access to any one of 100 games or any one of 20,000 plays. It’s like having an Apple I-Pod with 1000s of songs at your finger tips, except instead of music, it features video of plays, training programs, play situations or “themes” like all third downs inside the 25 yard line. With no video tape or DVDs to get in the way, the Landro system is quickly becoming a fundamental tool in football gaming strategy across America.

“Adding technology of this kind is just as big a deal as adding great coaches to your staff,” Brad claimed. “It’s a whole new way to think about getting better.” He and his father both look forward to seeing how their latest addition in technology will impact the season.

In the meantime, even as they plan for the future the novelty of having a New Orleans Saint’s Hall-Of-Fame NFL coach hasn’t all worn off. “I see him working with kids who have never put pads on before, and can tell he’s shocked about their inexperience, but it never shows to the kids,” says Brad. “The first time I told him to go help pass out the jerseys; I can still remember the look on his face… priceless.”

Football Shrink: Giants Can Win Super Bowl by Coping with Pressure Better than Patriots

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 29, 2008

Dr. John F. Murray (http://www.JohnFMurray.com), a licensed clinical and sport performance psychologist in Palm Beach (aka the “Football Shrink,” and the “Freud of Football” by the Washington Post) provides Mental Performance Index (MPI) statistics to show that the New England Patriots should easily defeat the New York Giants on Super Bowl Sunday, but the Giants are capable of winning if they manage pressure better than the Patriots.

The MPI analysis of performance under pressure during the NFL Playoffs shows much better clutch performance as the reason why the Patriots should win by at least two touchdowns.

The Patriots annihilated the Giants in pressure offense (.590 to .467), pressure defense (.602 to .479) and total pressure (.589 to .463). This represents a huge contrast in how much better the Patriots manage critical situations.

Simply put, the Patriots performed better under pressure than the Giants. The Giants have hope only if they perform much better during pressured, stressed moments of the game, and/or the Patriots perform much worse. Since the Super Bowl stage presents the most pressure of the year, this trend is most likely to continue, and the Patriots will probably soon be perfect.

The complimentary Super Bowl numerology by “The Football Shrink,” is posted on his website: http://www.JohnFMurray.com . New England (.550) scored better than New York (.532) on the total MPI score throughout the playoffs, and higher than the Giants in five of seven categories.

The Patriots posted an amazing .621 to .537 advantage over the Giants on offense, but the Giants were clearly better on defense (.523 to .468) and slighter better on special teams (.605 to .598). This normally indicates a closer game, but the MPI analysis of performance under pressure tells why it probably won’t be.

That the Giants scored higher on defense and special teams gives them some hope for an upset.

Dr. Murray’s Mental Performance Index (http://www.mentalperformanceindex.com) assigns points on each play throughout the playoffs for “focused execution,” “pressure management,” and “reduction of mental errors.” The team scores, like a baseball batting average, are represented on a scale ranging from .000 to 1.000 (perfection).

The MPI’s five year Super Bowl record is remarkable, beating the spread in 4 out of the 5 Super Bowls used, and accurately estimating performance each year. A summary chart of this football success can be seen at: http://www.smartproinsight.com/mpitrackrecord.htm

In addition to providing the annual MPI ratings and estimates, Dr. Murray provides sport psychology services out of his office in Palm Beach, Florida, and mental coaching via phone. He is a former tennis professional known for authoring the best-selling sport psychology book “Smart Tennis: How to Play and Win the Mental Game,” cover endorsed by the world’s ranked player at the time, Lindsay Davenport. He is also known for helping American tennis pro Vince Spadea bounce back from the longest losing streak in ATP Tour history (21 in a row) to return to a #18 world ranking and first ATP Tour title in Scottsdale (1984).

NFL and New England Patriots Make Classical High School’s FieldTurf Dream Come True

Providence, RI (Vocus) July 11, 2009

Classical High School has officially marked a tremendous moment in its athletic history. A major upgrade to the sports field has placed the school at the forefront of establishments with modernized sports venues. Locally-famed Al Morro Stadium, home of the Classical Purples, now boasts a brand new FieldTurf surface – the world’s leading synthetic turf system.

“A dream come true,” exclaimed Robert Palazzo, Classical’s Athletic Director. “We never thought this would be possible, but we finally have the field we always wished for.” Over the years, the school had lacked sufficient resources to provide its athletes with a true home field. An unsafe, deteriorated grass field often forced players and fans to take buses to home games scheduled in different areas of the city. Now, the 2008 division IV state champions will have a FieldTurf home field at Classical High School which will be the envy of sports programs across Rhode Island.

“The dream” came in the form of monetary assistance from the NFL and the New England Patriots, allowing the school to opt for a FieldTurf surface; the exact same surface used by the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. In fact, FieldTurf is the most widely used synthetic turf in the NFL, with 21 teams playing or practicing on the premium brand.

Classical High School drew the NFL’s attention by presenting their school’s complete athletic program – forced to play on a broken down and diminished natural grass field. Year after year, the grass was unable able to withstand the significant use of the football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey teams, turning the playing surface into dust early on in the season.

The goal of the NFL Grassroots Program is to provide financial and technical assistance in order to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields. Over 100 fields in 45 American cities have received assistance from this program. The partnership between the NFL’s Grassroots Program and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation were moved by Classical’s efforts and willingness to share a turf field with local community programs. A $ 200,000 grant was awarded to Classical for the FieldTurf project, rectifying the school’s facility problems once and for all.

The Mayor and City Council also approached Robert Kraft and the New England Patriots organization, which ended up donating $ 100,000 for the historic project.

Once the funds were secured, Classical’s staff immediately determined the criteria which were most important in selecting artificial turf: “Durability and safety,” stated Palazzo. “We no longer want our students and community to play on a diminished surface. This town has been the victim to such conditions for all too long.”

With the industry’s safest and most durable system, Classical High School will receive exactly what they hoped for from the turf manufacturer. FieldTurf’s patented synthetic turf is the only layered silica sand and cryogenic rubber infill which provides maximum safety to reduce serious injuries sustained on grass, while granting a firmness to also maximize athletic performance. As well, the turf is designed to withstand continuous use from all sports, offering unlimited all-weather playability and maintaining a consistent high-performance surface the entire time.

This major construction project has also led Classical High School to take a step in the “green” direction. The FieldTurf system is a renowned, leading-edge, environmentally-friendly product made of recycled materials. It eliminates harmful maintenance products used on natural grass such as lawn mowers, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Institutions across North America have saved billions of gallons of potable water per year – a benefit that is recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council for LEED accreditation, among many other contributing factors.

FieldTurf offers industry leading engineering and manufacturing resources, unparalleled leasing and financing capabilities, and clearly leads the synthetic turf industry with regard to setting higher environmental standards. Additionally, FieldTurf has attained over 12,000 satisfied customers in high quality pet, residential, commercial and municipal landscaping solutions, playground surfacing, and has a complete range of golf and tennis products.

FieldTurf is part of Tarkett Sports, a division of the Tarkett Group. Tarkett Sports is the largest entity in the sports and landscape surfacing industries. Included within the Tarkett Sports portfolio is an impressive range of performance sports flooring products. This product range includes: synthetic and hardwood basketball; volleyball and gymnasium flooring; squash and racquetball courts; floor protection and covering systems; weight room flooring; and high performance indoor and outdoor running tracks, featuring Beynon track surfaces.

Bnai Haman Offers Its Analysis of Why New England Patriots Lost the Super Bowl

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) February 6, 2008 – Bnai Haman, a not-for-

profit group of Columbia University alumni and concerned citizens, has posted its theory for why Robert Kraft and his New England Patriots came up short in their big game this past Sunday night.

Bnai Haman had publicly forecast the Patriots loss, even as the vast majority of sports commentators and odds makers were touting the Pats.

The group, which operates multiple web sites, is dedicated to reminding the world of the lessons to be learned by the speech on September 24, 2007 by Iranian Dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the campus of Columbia University. Bnai Haman strives to forewarn other universities (and sports teams) about the price to be paid for permitting dictators, terrorists and other villains to use democratic forums as a platform for promoting hate speech.

The Patriot’s owner, Kraft, is an alumnus and board member emeritus of Columbia University. Shortly after the infamous Ahmadinejad speech, he announced a $ 5 million donation to the university’s sports program.

“Karma is a very powerful thing,” says Jed Christianson, a volunteer with Bnai Haman. “Many, many sports celebrities are superstitious about remaining on the good side of luck – something that the Patriots may have overlooked.”

Prior to the Super Bowl, Bnai Haman awarded Kraft its “Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Award” in recognition of his recent contribution to Columbia.

Full details on the award and a full explanation of the so-called ‘Curse of Ahmadinejad’ can be found on the Bnai Haman web sites, including: http://www.leebollinger-bnaihaman.com
