Recovering Compulsive Gambler Talks about Prison, Insanity, But Not Quite Death
Madison, WI (Vocus/PRWEB) December 08, 2010
He was living a comfortable life with a great family, in a wonderful suburban house. So how did he end up charged with four counts of theft and sentenced to seven years of incarceration? Author Mike McNichols bravely unveils the story of his life to help compulsive gamblers see that that there is still hope for change. He tells it all in Prison, Insanity, But Not Quite Death: Confession of a Compulsive Gambler, his newly released book published through Xlibris.
McNichols is a college graduate who owned his own business for twenty-one years and consistently earned a salary of six figures. He was happily married and was an admirable family man well-known in his community and church. Until near the end, no one knew that he was stealing money to support his addiction to gambling. This stirring memoir follows his story of compulsive gambling. It reveals how he stole $ 1.6 million and loses everything, rather than figuring out that his life was a pretty good life, one that many people longed for. He was fortunate to have had the life, unfortunate enough to throw it all away, and now blessed to be alive and coming back from the pits of hell.
?I know compulsive gambling can kill. I know compulsive gambling leads to a prison cell. But it doesn?t have to,? McNichols states. ?You don?t want to go where I have been. Forget the bells. Forget the whistles. Forget the waterfalls. I hope you will choose to stay clean?or if need be?get clean and stay stopped, one day at a time.?
On February 24, 2010, 1,496 days after he went to prison, the author was released. He is currently in the midst of the eleven years of extended supervision, and his fifteen-year sentence will not end until January 2021. But in this second chance of freedom, he has known better. He had struggled, pondered, and found realization that, just like drugs and alcohol, gambling can take a person down?down to his limits?six feet underground. Yet he has lived to tell his story. Prison, Insanity, But Not Quite Death is a testimonial that anyone, even with severe case of compulsive gambling, can break free from the prison cells they have created for themselves.
