College Football Betting Week 4: Game Previews and Analysis; Analysts Believe Some Teams Unprepared Following ‘Separation Saturday’

Miami Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 21, 2006

College football betting expert John Hoben of Point-Spreads.com, the premier provider of sports data, information, and analysis to the betting community, sat down today with Matthew Ross of online betting site BetUS.com, to discuss this weekend’s NCAA Football matchups in anticipation of Point-Spreads.com’s full coverage of College Football Week 4.

Ross says he expects another record breaking weekend as far as betting volumes are concerned on his firm’s web site, and lends an insight into what to look out for, as well as where the “public’s” money is going.

We asked him about some of the games the public will be watching this weekend, starting with Wisconsin at No. 6 Michigan:

“The spread on this game is currently Michigan -14 as you can see on the Point-Spreads.com Odds Board,” Ross began. “Those who have followed the Wolverines the last several years know their unpredictability – even after a big win they are no less likely to follow up with a big loss. Hopefully they will stay grounded and not let down their guard against Wisconsin. Laying 14 points on an undependable team like the Wolverines is not your smartest play here, in my opinion. Keep your eye on Point-Spreads.com’s live odds feed as we get closer to game day, and fire on Michigan if the number moves south by a half point, although this seems unlikely with the flow of bets steadily heading their way … keep an eye out for any decent M/L numbers to appear,” Ross recommends. Ross’ advice seems unheeded at this point however, with major Sports Books reporting more than 85 percent of the action received so far going in Michigan’s favor.

Continuing on to perhaps the biggest game of the weekend, Point-Spreads.com College Football Expert, John Hoben, assumed the lead, cautiously optimistic on No. 24 Penn State meeting No. 1 Ohio State: “This one should be a lock for Ohio State …. Penn State has been a disappointment in the Big 10,” Hoben offered. “… however, I’m hesitant to actually call a sure thing here … Notre Dame was asleep at the wheel earlier, thinking they were playing a push-over team; Ohio State could be another national contender knocked out in the first month if they think they can adopt the same attitude,” Hoben warned. “I just noticed however that the opening line, -17 Ohio State, is starting to come down, with some books on the Point-Spreads.com board now showing -16.5 …. That’s enough to make me get on the Ohio State side at this point … that’s my pick,” Hoben finished. It seems the public agrees with Hoben as well, with some 80 percent to 85 percent of early bets being laid on #1 Ohio State according to Point-Spreads.com sources.

Asked about the 22-point spread stacked against Arizona when they meet the No.3 USC Trojans, Ross offered, “There are folks out there that actually think an upset is possible in this game, mostly those feeling that John Booty (QB) isn’t playing at full-steam. I wouldn’t go that far, but I will take the 22 points being offered here for Arizona. I say bet against the public on this one, keep your eye on the Point-Spreads.com screen and take the points on Arizona so long as the number doesn’t go down.”

Wrapping up our conversation with Alabama vs. Arkansas (Arkansas opened as a 1.5 point favorite), Hoben concluded the conversation with, “this will be a low scoring game. I always take the small favorite in these situations.”

Five Players Reached the Million Point Mark Last Week; PicksPal Announced Free Prizes

Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) January 3, 2006 -?

The free online sports pick game, PicksPal, witnessed record high performances in sports picking last week after it announced free prizes to its weekly winners and millionaires.

Since its launch in September, only three players had reached the elusive million-point mark, but last week after PicksPal?s free prizes announcement, a total of five players responded with totals from 1.2 million to 2.8 million points. The five newest members to PicksPal?s Millionaire Club made their marks and won their prizes by following PicksPal?s slogan?s advice to ?Pick Smart? and ?Pick Often.? PicksPal?s prizes include a widescreen portable DVD player for its weekly champ, as well as iPods for its millionaires and the winner of its College Bowl Tournament.

These prizes proved to be enough incentive for players to pick right through the holidays, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Between the knowledgeable five, they made a total of 22 sports picks on Dec. 24th and 19 picks on Dec. 25th, ranging from props and outcomes in College Basketball, Pro Basketball, College Football, and Pro Football.

Postal Cowboy, who won the week with 2.8 million points, made a total of 29 picks throughout the week, while ArchDaemon, who finished in 4th place with 1.2 million points, made 38 picks throughout the week. The other millionaires needed only 14, 16, and 17 picks respectively to amass their point totals between 1.2 to 2.2 million, proving that picking smart is just as important as picking often. Nevertheless, Postal Cowboy?s perfect balance of smart and multiple picks confirmed it the best strategy to a build more points, as his 2.8 were the second highest point total ever at PicksPal.

Before announcing weekly prizes last week, PicksPal had challenged players to play for pride and bragging rights, and while people had been signing up and playing in large quantities, never before had they performed so well. Free sports picks and free prizes are really proving to be the ultimate incentive to pick smart and pick often. In the midst of the college bowl games and the NFL playoffs and NCAA Basketball tournament just around the corner, PicksPal could not have picked a better time to roll out its weekly prizes.

About the College Football Performance Awards:

The goal of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

As many scholars have noted, CFPA eliminates the politics and biases that vitiate the college football awards process. Harvard Society Fellow Andrew Zimbalist writes, “By employing a careful, vetted empirical methodology, CFPA promises to set straight many of the wrongheaded, arbitrary, and exclusionary methods currently employed to assess player awards in Division I FBS football.” Former Science Advisor to President Barack Obama, Lawrence Krauss states, “CFPA may improve the scientific literacy of generations of fans.” While Runner-up Science Author of the Year Amy Langville adds, “A rigorous scientific methodology like CFPA is a welcome addition for fans and players demanding equity in sports awards.”

Statement from Executive Director:

“CFPA has truly become a catalyst for rational discourse, as well as the vanguard of a new zeitgeist of objectivity and fairness in college football,” states Executive Director Brad Smith. “The thousands of enthusiastic letters, e-mails, and phone calls that CFPA has received from journalists, fans, coaches, players, administrators, and scholars vindicate the importance of CFPA’s mission. CFPA respects the storied tradition of college football but may also be uniquely positioned to eliminate the political elements to college football that have proved disastrous to the integrity of the game.”

Assistant Director Appointed:

The College Football Performance Awards recently appointed its Assistant Director – Harold Alvin Smith, MD. Smith graduated from Duke Medical School in 1970 and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Executive Director Brad Smith states, “We believe that Dr. Smith is well positioned for success in this capacity given his extraordinary background in the sciences.”
